Some post MU football game notes

Before Greg (I love soccer) Viscomi wandered off to the soccer game Sunday he sent me these jewels which I thought I would share with you (since I don't have room to get them in the Press at least for now)..

Three different Hawks set records in the game, including redshirt freshman David Sinisi scoring in his 10th straight game, a new MU record …
Three different senior running backs scored in their final regular season home game at Kessler Field, including Rob Lutz, Walter Carter and Leonard Brice … Monmouth lost the time of possession battle for the first time this season, as the Red Flash owned a 35:26 to 23:15 advantage in the contest

This one is really good!!! … Monmouth had eight different players score in the game, including three wide receivers, four running backs and a defensive back …

Momouth was a perfect five-for-five in redzone scoring, marking the fourth time this season that the Hawks have scored on all redzone opportunities … senior quarterback Brian Boland was 70% throwing the ball and had 237 yards including a trio of passing touchdowns … Boland was not sacked in the game … senior defensive end Erik Yngstrom picked up his team-leading fourth sack of the year, moving him within 2.5 of tying MU career record holder Jason Gmitter’s 25.5.

I'm sure MU would love it if they could slip him through under a new name (just kidding!) but including this year the hard hitting, ball-hawking (no pun intended) safety has played four years of college ball so his playing eligibility is up. MU defense returns only 2-3 starters next season.

that's what i thought but most of the publications have left him out when talking about seniors that we were losing. i know he only did a little bit of special teams his frosh year. also thought there was some exception under red-shirting that if a player played less than 20% of a season he could come back for a fifth?

Matt appeared in 10 games as a freshman..the 20 percent - I believe - applies only in the case of a medical red shirt...

You are correct for the 20%, it only applies to a medical redshirt. If a player plays one down of football, his year is used up.

LoCastro ((T, Jr.), Dunn (LG, Sr. DNP as a frosh), and Skellenger (RG, Sr., DNP as a frosh) may all be back if the seniors opt for fifth years. Don't forget Shawn Wright (Fr, RG, injured early in the season but was seeing a lot of action) will be back..perhaps as a medical RS freshman though that's not etched in stone but he should be back.

According to the MU media guide he appeared in five games as a freshman, is a senior, and has not missed a year.
