Soccer: Monmouth U. Men win NEC Tournament, women fall in final
The Monmouth University men's soccer team defeated St. Francis, Pa. Sunday afternoon
on The Great Lawn, 1-0, to win the Northeast Conference Tournament championship game and
gain the accompanying NCAA College Cup berth (NCAA Tournament).
Junior Damon Wilson scored with 8:03 remaining to send the Hawks (14-3-3) to the
NCAAs in Division I for the first time in school history.
Monmouth will learn during Monday afternoon's nationally televised Soccer Selection
Show the particulars of its opponent this coming weekend.
With the defense of St. Francis (10-7-3) surrounding NEC Tournament MVP Steven
Holloway junior Tom Gray, a Middletown South High School graduate, passed on the wing to
Wilson who drove the ball high into the upper right corner thrilling the crowd of nearly
600 fans that packed the bleachers and lined the fences.
""I guess I hit it well,'' said Wilson, who transferred to Monmouth this season from
Ohio Wesleyan. ""By the grace of God it went in,'' he said.
In the women's NEC Soccer Tournament final Long Island University topped Monmouth,
2-0.

congrats to the men and women for both having outstanding seasons!
I don't know if you were there but the men's game was one of the best 1-0 games if not the best I have ever seen. Constant changing field action..several dangerous scoring chances by both sides. Wilson's goal was some bomb!!
