MU vs. SFPA football scouting report/my comments/prediction
Featuring game notes from Monmouth football SID Greg (I am so glad the Eagles have a bye week or I would have a nervous breakdown ) Viscomi and comments from yours truly:
SFPA Offense: Quarterback Anthony Doria (NEC record 8,000 career passing yards, Brian Boland has thrown for over 7,000) is still the main cog on offense, and he has thrown for 10 touchdown passes and averages a shade under 160 yards passing per game. His favorite target is wide receiver Michael Caputo, who is second to Monmouth’s Adam San Miguel in receptions (61 to 53) on the year and holds a slight lead over San Miguel in yards (671-645). The Red Flash can run the ball with Todd Harris, who is second in the NEC in rushing yards with 102 yards per game.
My comment: Dangerous but defendable. I'll be surprised if they score more than two TD Saturday (of course I am often surprised).
Defense: The St. Francis (Pa.) defense has proven vulnerable this year, allowing
a Northeast Conference-high 36.7 points per game. They are also last in the NEC in rush defense, surrendering 210.4 yards per game and a 6.0 yards per carry average. They’ve also allowed 23 touchdowns on the ground this year. The Red Flash are slightly better against the pass, only allowing 175.8 yards per game through the air, but they allow their opponents to complete
almost 62 % of their passes. St. Francis (Pa.) has also allowed 18 touchdowns
through the air, while picking off an NEC-low five passes.
My comment: Barring turnovers MU should move the ball at will. Look for Brett Burke to be in the game by the third quarter.
Special Teams: The Red Flash rank last or second to last in the Northeast Conference in yards per kickoff return (16.9 ypr.), net punting (23.1 ypp), yards per punt return (4.6 ypr) and kickoff coverage (20.0 ypr).
My comments: MU's special teams had a big edge in the kicking/punting until Dennis' suspension. Now...who knows? SFPA is 4-6 FG with a long of 36 and 21-22 PAT.
Fast facts
Monmouth redshirt freshman running back David Sinisi has the longest consecutive
game scoring streak for nonkickers in all of Division I-AA football. The Cedar Grove, N.J. native has scored in all nine of the Hawks’ games this season, en route to the first 11 scores of his career for the Blue and White. Furman’s Jerome
Fulton had his eight game scoring streak snapped last week, and Harvard’s Clifton Dawson and Montana’s Reggie Bradshaw have seven game streaks intact.
Senior safety Matt (Mohawk)Hill has 242 career tackles, just two behind Joe Little who is fifth all-time. Former Hawk Aaron Edwards is first all-time with 353 career-tackles.
BULLETIN - Adam San Miguel ties Roger Maris!
With a nine-catch, 92 yard performance against Central Connecticut, Adam San Miguel tied the MU single-season record for receptions in a season with 61. The senior from North Bergen, N.J., will break the record with a single catch against Saint Francis, this weekend. San Miguel’s 6.78 catches per contest is fifth in 1-AA football.
For the ninth time this season last week Monmouth
led in time of possession controlling
the ball for 34:53 compared to CCSU’s 24:11. The Hawks are sixth in the country in time of possession.
MU defensive end Erik Yngstrom has 22 career sacks after picking up a half sack last weekend against CCSU. Yngstrom needs just 3.5 to tie Jason Gmitter for first in the MU record books with 25.5.
Senior tailback Leonard Brice had a career-high 98 yards on 10 carries last week.
David Jiles still needs one INT for what would be a school career record 12th.
Key game NEC game this week: Albany at RMU. MU needs RMU to win this week and next week at Sacred Heart while WINNING its last two games to host the Dec. 2 Gridiron Classic. This is one of several developments by which MU could host but one that does not depend on Stony Brook losing another game.
Prediction: My record 6-1 (I wish I was doing this well in high school football!)
If MU loses this game I will jump off the pressbox. I won't even be injured because I will land on so many others who would have jumped over ahead of me.
Dennis suspension should not be a factor this week. MU was ambushed by Stony Brook, but not this time. Monmouth, 33-14.

What did he do this time?
As I already mentioned to someone earlier..I don't know. Nor do I really care.
To the person who just commented..I am not going to run it. Not that there was anything wrong with it but, in my judgement, it's time to just leave the issue alone. Let's hope you'e not correct.
If you or anyone else would like to further discuss it you may always e-mail me at tonygsports@aol.com.
Thank you.
