MU football has an uphill battle/basketball report

Did a little research today on team's coming back from an opening NEC loss to win an NEC football championship. How many do you think have done it since the league began in 1996? Answer in the next blog (which will be very soon).

Kevin Callahan said today safety Matt Hill is back in action this Saturday after missing the SBU game with a staph infection.

How much did MU miss him? Consider: Hill, who before Saturday was Monmouth's leading tackler this season, missed just the third game of his career and had started in 25 consecutive games. Monmouth is 29-6 (16-5 in the NEC) when Hill plays.

Callahan also said RB Walter Carter will play after finishing his five game suspension ""for violating team" rules and that the status of back up safety Derek Bischoff (concussion) remains uncertain.

Watched some hoops today: Some highlights and observations - Here's one play MU fans hope they see a lot of this season...rookie guard Jahmar Youngblood with an ally-oop to Rickie "The Rookie" Crews for a two-hand jam. The two kids looked very good again. Big Sean Barlow had his best day ever..at least in a pick up game..he was hitting everything...from inside fall aways to medium and long range shots. 6-9 freshman Dutch Gaitely also performed well, best I've seen him look. 6-10 Adam Dobriansky has the makings of a strong rebounder. Needs work on finishing shots but has a chance to be Ok down the road. Mike Shipman (foot) and John Bunch (knee) did not play. Both are expected to be ready for the first day of practice Oct. 14.
