Ouch!
See, I told you MU wouldn't have seven turnovers. Instead they had six. Double ouch. Tehnically they had seven if you include Sean Dennis' ill-advised run out of punt formation which he did on his own . SB scored off five of the seven miscues including the attempted first down run run on the punt. Safety Matt Hill (medical reasons,) MU's leading tackler, did not play. More later. Your thoughts on the game???

Let's review your questions:
Was this team ready to play? Did the coaches know what to expect from Stony Brook?
I believe this team was ready to play. They knew all about the history with the Stony Brook loss two years ago and many of these players participated in that game.
They had practiced during the week against the very plays SBU unloaded for their first two TD passes. I have to believe the absence of senior safety Matt Hill hurt more than Callahan would admit. From what I understand it wasn't decided until this morning that Hill would not play. Derek Bischoff started in his place but was later lifted for - I believe - Brian Robinson.
I hate to kill Sean Dennis here but that run on the punt just was not a good decision. It was 0-0 at the time and set up
SBU on the MU 25. That was followed by the INT off the ref that gave SBU the ball on the MU 45. To SBU's credit they cashed in on both
Also when will the defense run something different, the same things nothing new?
This is the same defense that has been playing well over the first four weeks. But my concern continues to be the lack of pressure on the opposing quarterback. No sacks again today for MU and Dudash was not overly nimble. I know this is also a concern for the coaching staff. MU attempted to blitz several times but either they were picked up for Dudash was able to get away.
We came out in the second half did't throw much. We also were in the huddle, and taking forever.I ask this question did the coaches pack it in after half time? It sure did look like it to me.
I can assure you the coaches did not pack it in after half time. Your question alluding to perhaps a hurry up offense was asked in the post game press conference. Callahan said they felt they could do best with a normal offense. They did get to within 29-10 and were driving early in the fourth quarter when Sharpley missed that pass and it turned into an INT. Score there and it's 29-17 with about say....eight minutes left. I am speculating here..but ..after that..if MU had held them..I believe MU may have gone hurry up.
What also has to be a concern was the defense overall. After the Lutz INT, SBU drove 85 yards for its next score. As I said on my last blog turnovers do not have to lead to TD if the defense holds up its end.
However..lets look at this..aside from the 85-yard TD drive the others (TD marches) began at the MU 27 and 45 (the two long passes), the MU 37 after a punt, and the MU 46 after the last INT of the pass that went through Sharpley. So SBU did have good field position most all day.
Also.. that frosh back Cuttino killed Monmouth. I don't believe they were geared to zero in on him much as they had been vs. Scott (of Colgate) because Cuttino had not been a major player until today. Certainly they knew about him..but he had carried the ball 13 times for 100 yards all season before going 27 for 170 today. I thought, personally, he was better than Scott. He was very strong and hard to wrap up.
In the end..the turnovers ruined Monmouth..cost them drives, field position, and the game.
Bischoff was not lifted. He suffered a concussion making his first tackle. He came out of the half in street clothes.
Well..I don't doubt you, but in the press box they just said he was no longer in the game and that Robinson had taken his place. There was no mention of an injury during or after the game. Hope he's OK, nice kid. In the end, as I've said, the turnovers clearly made the difference. Don't forget..not only does the other team often score off them (as SBU did Saturday) but those are drives your team can't score on. Take away maybe three of the turnovers and maybe MU gets another 10 points or so earlier in the game. Was a long day for MU rooters, that's for sure.
Talked specifically today with coach Callahan about the possibility of a two-minute offense in the second half. He said they felt satsified with the tempo and saw no reason to change it.
muhawkfan..I am rejecting your latest comment simply because all your points were previously answered here. As a life long Philadelphia sports fan I know what frustration is, and I certainly feel yours. I don't think you can come out in the third quarter and run a hurry up offense right from the start. I do beleive they would have gone to it had they gotten closer in the fourth. When MU broke up the pass at the goal line in the fourth quarter and the ball hung in the air..MU needed somone to pick it off and go 102. You gotta get a cheap TD and a turnover or two to have a chance to come back in a game like that. But anyway..there will be no ragging of coaches on here. Second guessing will definitely be allowed and discussed, but we already did that. It is nice to see how passionate you are but we have to keep everything on some sort of high plain. I hope you understand.
Tony,
Funny that while MU's coaches felt the hurry up offense wasn't needed, SBU ran it all day long!!
Plus it seemed that MU's offense was trying to get 15 plays out of screens and 2 yard passes all day long.
Even if I don't always post a comment I can always be reached at tonygsports@aol.com...It's hard to tell specifically what happened on a given play or plays without looking at the game films which I do not have accesss to. To answer another question...I was told (after asking today) Nunziato played in the second half...You and anyone else can always e-mail the coach, I believe his e-mail is on their web site. Callahan also usually holds a luncheon at MU the day before a game for fans, etc. One can call the school (732)571-3400 for more info on this.
Hey.. this team is 4-1 isn't it??
tony, mike nunziato was replaced by tyler burnett for all of the second half after he received his personal foul, as you said the kid from ny is listed as his backup, im sure they put burnett in to preserve his redshirt.
