"Jet" flying smoothly under the radar/My other post game thoughts/quick hits
Now that Mike Shipman (5 points tonight, 4 assists, three turnovers, two steals, 32 minutes) is back in the fold Jhamar Youngblood can be more of a shooting guard again...topped MU with a quiet but very effective 19 points tonight. He has scored in double figures in seven games in a row...
When he picked up his second foul in the first half tonight Dave could insert Shipman to steady the (pun) ship...Jhamar hit eight of nine from the floor as he drove and didn't force much except for the offensive foul
But the telling blows were delivered by Bunch as he provides offensive floor balance with the guards and his defense was game changing...
His 11 points tonight are one more than he scored in total on the four game road trip...MU is now 6-0 this year when Bunch scores eight points or more, 13-2 in his MU career...Delic topped MU in assists with six of their 17. MU had 17 TOs though and also continues to be less than glittering at the foul line ..16-for-24...SFNU had 10 assists and 12 TOs....
Back to Bunch...as many have noted here..if he has an effective second half of the year ..MU may yet go a long away...
MU totally shut down guard Jamaal Womack 1-for-9, 0-for-6 from three who killed them last time..Number 12 Hines (20 points) is a tough cookie, no question...John Gooden (15 points off the bench)..was two points off his career high ..SFNY has lost three in row sincde it beat MU...It (2-11 road) has not won a road game outside of New York - (Wagner and LIU)...
Now, can MU get the act together on the road?? This is sort of where MU was prior to the previous road trip when the roof fell in.
Difference though..now they have Shipman and Bunch appears to be playing better...
MU needs to go 6-2 rest of the way in the NEC regular season to clinch a winning record....for a seventh year in a row....
Three of MU's final eight regular season games are on TV beginning with FDU 730 p.m. Monday on MSG
These games with FDU and the SHU game on TV didn't look like much when the NEC season began but, boy that Ron Ratner (NEC Assistant Commissioner), is just a genius !!!!. As all three should/could be pivotal to NEC Tournament seeding..
New York Post writer Tom Sullivan was at the game tonight interviewing Dave and SFNY coach Brian Nash and Bunch a little at the end. ..Sullivan is doing a column on the NEC which he said will run next Friday...
