STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE
If you were told Monsignor Farrell's James Hett and Ryan Rossiter were held to all of two points at halftime of their CHSAA-SIHSL encounter against Moore Catholic last night, one might respond by asking what the Mavericks were winning by.
Except Michael Pulci, Billy Falkenhainer and Joe Feminella refused to let it happen.
Although the visiting Mavericks successfully bottled up Hett and Rossiter before intermission, Farrell's role players stepped up admirably before its high-scoring tandem got rolling in the third quarter en route to a 58-57 win in Oakwood.
Farrell, now 16-5 overall, wrapped up its fourth consecutive CHSAA Staten Island division crown with the victory. The Lions (7-3 SIHSL), who finished 5-1 in division play, will represent the Island in the upcoming CHSAA AA playoffs.
"Winning the Catholic division and having a chance to play in the AA playoffs is special. It's a great opportunity for us," said Farrell coach Bob Besignano. "I'm really proud of how hard the kids worked to get to this point. We've grown as a team throughout the season."
Falkenhainer and Pulci, who, along with Hett, Rossiter, Anthony Cassarino and Stephen Todaro were honored on Senior Night prior to the game, led Farrell with 13 points apiece. Hett and Joe Feminella added 12 and 11, respectively.
