My MU vs. LIU thoughts, rambles, and observations

This sure surprised the heck out of me!

Before we talk about defense, why does it take so long for MU's offense to get rolling?..It happened vs. St. Peter's as well..they wheel the ball around but nobody goes to the basket or attempts to throw it inside or post up and they settle for Js...hey, maybe it's just me...

Ok..at one point when it was 33-19, LIU was 10-for-17 and seven of the 10 were 3's...

LIU shot the ball very well, but it has to be distressing for MU to realize the kid Kotorabei..who was injured and went 4-4 from 3 before leaving..was 7-for-31 from 3 entering the game...

Credit to Dave for going to the three guards..in case you're wondering he said he could have put Delic back in at the end but elected not to..

Yes, I think you may see a lot more of the three guard alignment ..but it also comes down to matchups and how MU is faring on the glass...it also appears very suceptable to layups as LIU proved..

After MU got within 61-59 on the "Jet" 3, LIU's next three baskets were layups and Williams had a layup that made it 74-69 with 1:01 remaining. Note that LIU shot better in the second half (who would have though that possible!).. 58 percent (14-24) after shooting 52.2 (12-for-23) in the first half..and MU shot 62 percent (17-for 27) in the second half..and still lost

Shipman did take an ill-advised shot there, but overall had a splendid floor game..nine assists..one block, one steal, five rebounds, one TO. Marques did miss that layup, too..it happens..
..

Hawks continue to struggle from the foul line..that hurt tonight as well....

How does MU lose with 18 assists and 11 TOs.??? Well... LIU had 20 assists and 15 TOs..

and how must Robert Morris feel tonight?

LIU has a nice, scrappy club, but even in the NEC you cannot win on 3's alone...

FYI..the last NEC regular season championship team to lose it's league opener..also at home by the way, was CCSU in 2001-2002 . It went on to a 19-1 NEC record and 27-5 season...for whatever that's worth...

Since the beginning of time MU has been burned by the 3 - last night was no exception. A nice comeback but too many easy baskets for LIU late.

Youngblood looks like the real deal and Nunner showed some signs of life last night which was good to see. Still no contribution from the big men. The guards are going to get alot of work this year.

Tony I have to say I only saw the last 5 minutes and I guess that was the best part of the game. It's already been said by several people, we just need to play some DEFENSE. Ron Krayl has to be going out of his mind right now with the defense the team is playing. The bright spot is that we saw a freshman guard give us glimpses of Rasahn Johnson. I still believe we win the next 5 games.

I've been complaining for a while now about redshirting the 2 big guys, and how they'll have no experience starting next season.

On the one hand maybe I'm right -- they should have played this year. On the other, maybe I'm wrong about the lack of experience they'll have because even with that HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY BE ANY WORSE THAN WHAT WE SAW FROM HALLETT & BUNCH LAST NIGHT???

Hope Calloway is recruiting 2 more big men with his remaining 2 sholarships for next year. And hopefully, they'll be guys with experience (either JC transfers or just regular college transfers -- ala Boxler from a couple of seasons back) who can step right into the starting lineup.

What we got from the big guys last night was awful!

Point guard ill-advised 3pt shot again now Mike is 2-23,Very poor court savy in the final seconds.ZERO from our centers,Corey needs a long rest on the bench so he can pull himself out of his funk,he is a better player then we have seen.Bunch is Bunch you cant get better unless you work at your game everyday.Right now the three guards and Marques and Deki is our only hope.

Whats he smoking tony, i may want some.

How can corey hallett be any better than our redshirts this year? Experience or not, the guy just doesnt have the goods to be a regular. He's just a big body that can hit a shot from time to time. Other than that, I cant say much for him. He's constantly in foul trouble as well.
