THE WILLIAMS WATCH
Senior James Williams has been climbing up the LIU scoring chart this season and is on the verge of
breaking the top 10. The sharp-shooting guard has scored 1,359 points in his career, ranking him 12th
on the all-time list. His 12 points against St. John’s moved the DeSoto, Texas native past Rita Clarida
(1979-82) and into the 12th spot. Williams needs 44 points to catch Albie Grant for the 11th spot and
58 points to crack the top 10 (Ruben Rodriguez - 1,407).
Williams also ranks second in three-point fi eld goals made in a career with 221. He is just six behind
two-time NCAA scoring leader Charles Jones (1996-98) for the career mark. Williams passed Dave
Masciale (1993-97) with a pair of treys against New Hampshire.
In between three-point buckets, Williams has also had time to dish the ball to his teammates. He ranks
sixth all-time on the LIU assist list, seven behind No. 5 Anthony Bogarty.
FROM WAY DOWNTOWN...BANG
LIU ranked 17th in the nation last season in three-point fi eld goals made per game, averaging 8.6 per
contest. James Williams led the charge, connecting on 3.2 per game to place 25th in the country.
Williams also ranked 27th in the country in three-point fi eld goal percentage, converting at a .419 clip.
This season, the rims haven’t been nearly as kind. In the fi rst three games LIU connected on just 14
three-pointers (4.7/gm.) and shot .184 from deep. After dropping 16 triples against Old Westbury, the
Blackbirds have fallen back into their shooting slump, hitting just 17-for-78 (.218) in the three games
since.

LIU-Old Westbury now there's a rivalry game for the ages. I love how these NEC teams play D-3 schools to beef up there records.
70-62 MU Wins,New line up,LIU has a great guard and thats all.No match up problems.Go Hawks
You are correct, if you look at the schedules of most of the other NEC teams they play a fairly weak non-conference schedule. I think Dave said a few years ago that the NEC will not get the respect it needs until all the teams begin going out and playing bigger name teams. Im sure it looks great on each team's W-L numbers but overall playing 3 or 4 D-3 teams really does nothing for improving your teams ability to play with the big boys. Many people may disagree with the way Dave schedules the non-conference games, I for one support it 110%.
