Who gets 1-AA invite?

Please post here. I think I may have forgotten to enable the comment link (again) on that blog. Also..who honsestly thought after MU lost to Stony Brook MU would come back and finish alone in first place?

I thought MU had a fair shot of tying but would probably lose one more, and I didn't think think SBU would lose twice.

UNTIL ....going into final weekend as I posted in predictions..I had vibes that SBU was going to lose to CCSU as I didn't think SBU would stop Hairston.

I read that SanMiguel suffered an ankle sprain. Does anyone know how serious the injury is?

Tony, please let the coach and team know that their fans are pulling for them! Special thanks for the seniors from the fans - one more game!

Tony,

Any idea when San Diego (or MU) find out if they get an at large bid, and thus we'll know who'll play in the NEC-Patriot playoff game?

Callahan told me a little while ago he'll have a better idea later this week what the MU and or SDU post-season situation will look like.

Selection to the 1-AA playoffs occurs on the 19th, with first round games on the 25th. Monmouth and San Diego will know their fate next Sunday!

Right. MU and SDU will know for certain Sunday. However, Callahan told me, he'd have a feel for MU's post-season status later this week though I don't imagine it would be official. Am going to wait until mid week and do a story for Thursday on their "possible" status, whateverthat may be. I still feel it's SDU to 1-AA playoffs (if either SDU or MU) and Drake comes to MU for the GC. Again, just my opinion.

I was at Albany! We have the best fans in the NEC imo. As for the game, it was never close. MU thoroughly dominated the game. I talked to Coach after the game and he said how great the defense was today. Albany had 2 scoring chances all game, and one of them was on the play that SanMiguel got hurt on (muffed a punt return). Somehow, Albany was allowed to return a muffed punt to the ten. Albany dropped a fourth and goal pass that would have been a touchdown. Albany (who had the highest ranked defense in the league) got pushed around all day. Monmouth could have passed all day on them. They did stop MU's running attack (I think 2.9/carry on 47 carries), but they made enough plays when they needed too.

As for the playoffs, I have no idea how the selection committee is going to go. San Diego's schedule is pretty weak. They only have 8 wins against 1-aa. They win every game in blowout fashion, but is that because of the weak competition, or because they are that good. I think it is probably a combo of the 2. Monmouth actually has the better resume (even with the SBU loss), based on whom they have beaten and whom the teams they beat have beaten. With that said, Monmouth's Colgate win turned out to not be as great as we all thought at the beginning of the season. Georgia Southern (CCSU) and Delaware (Albany) are not having good years either. Lehigh (Albany) was an ok win, but even they are not at the level they have been over the last few years. But, these wins are more impressive than USD's best win, which was against Yale. I think both teams will miss the playoffs, but if one goes, do not be shocked if it is MU. Also, if a "mid-major" is going to make it to the playoffs, this is the year it will happen. Lots of teams ranked in the top 25 with 3 and 4 losses (another reason USD is ranked so high).

Interesting comment. To me.. the SDU blowout win at Yale is impressive..maybe more so than MU's over Colgate and Lehigh.

If you're 1-AA the committee do you take a 10-1 team over a 10-0 team? Don't know.

I think we are losing more sleep over this than the 1-AA committee!

For MU fans..the good news is..MU will play again and that's the main thing. Prior to Saturday, odds weren't all that brilliant.

Anyone notice I picked MU to win Saturday and SBU to lose? I have to point this out to offset my awful (usually) high school football picks.

I should have spent this fall at the track...darn!

The only reason that MU would go over USD is because the 1-aa selection committee only looks at your wins against d-1 opponents. Sub-D1 wins do not count. Therefore, USD is really only 8-0 in the eyes of the selection committee.
