If You Go (or listen)! Mens/women's hoops/football

If you attend or listen via radio, etc. to the Cox Classic, MU-Albany football, or the MU women's hoops game please post your observations, thoughts, comments here. Even though men's hoops and footall are usually prime subjects, comments on MU women's basketball are always welcome.

Read that the Hawks went 17 of 18 on 3's. I hope Monmouth is just clearing off the offseason cobwebs....

Admirable effort by MU at St. Johns in soccer.

Hat Trick for the Hawks..both hoops and soccer go down. Talked briefly with Eddie O. down at the Cox Classic. He said Clemson won by 40 over Ark State, MU's opponent Sunday. He said he thinks MU (as we thought) has a shot in that game but Clemson, of course, going to be tough.

Hard to believe MU shot 1-for-18 from 3. And with 19 turnovers still had a shot in the second half.

NEC men go 0-6 on opening night..dropped two "winnable games...Wagner at home to Lafayette (which MU was said to have handled in a closed scrimmage) and Sac Hrt lost to Fordham.

Go to http://odusports.cstv.com/..this is the ODU web site..they have a recap, full box, and play-by-play.

Looks like Shipman (among others) had a bad game..one assist..six turnovers.

How is it hard to believe they went 1-18 from three....give me one guy who is a good consistent three point shooter for this team?

Good morning from Norfolk!
What a game it was yesterday afternoon at the Ted. 5 1/2 hours of driving for a team that Dave Calloway said "wasn't quite ready". This was evident by horrific overall offensive execution. However, the defense was relatively strong throughout the game and the team really settled in during the 2nd half compared to the 1st. I had flashbacks to March 17 when Monmouth was stuck on 7pts scored for the first 14 minutes of today's game. They only scored 14 in the first half, and points were hard to come by all night as turnovers and missed shots killed the Hawks. Player Game Reviews:
Delic: A tough shooting night for Deki (2-10 and 0 for 3's), capped off by an airball freethrow.
Hallett: Corey did not bring his usual energy tonight but did play well defensively chipping in with 5 rebounds.
Alston: Marques could have totally changed this game. However, ODU has a floppaholic called Vaslyuis who through himself to the floor everytime Marques was near him. Marques ended up in constant undeserved foul trouble and the whole team struggled without him (I for one was ready to see what Rickie Crews could do during his absence but apparently Calloway wasn't). Marques' line was 4-8 shooting, 9 pts and hit MU's only 3 pointer.
Coleman: Someone needs to tell this kid to shoot! The boxscore says he was 2-7, but he really should've taken at least 4 more good looks. If MU is successful this year, he needs to step up and establish himself as a scoring threat.
Shipman:As stated earlier, Shipman had a poor floor game and also a bad shooting day (2-8). It seemed that some of the ODU players had him rattled. I expect more maturity and growth from him throughout his first season running the MU offense.
Bunch: John Bunch played a great defensive game. He altered and blocked shots with regularity. However, his developing offensive game was nonexistant. And, ODU's 7-3 Dustin Diamond look a like outplayed him almost everytime they were on the floor together. Bunch could be a HUGE factor tonight against Clemson, who doesn't have a regular over 6'9.
Youngblood: The tale of two halves for this diaper dandy. In the first half he was pressing a bit and had multiple turnovers and played a bit out of control. He did settle down at the end of the first half and played a spirited second half finishing with 8 points on 3-5 shooting and perfect from the stripe. I like the looks of this kid.
Nunner: Damn this kid can shoot during warmups. However, quick close-outs by defenders alter his shot during games. Unfortunately, MU needs to swing that ball a little quicker for players like Nunner and Deki to be effective breaking zones this year. "Where have you gone Chris Kenny?"
Signing off, and will be back blogging tomorrow- MU Mystery Coach

This from a blogger whose comment was derailed by a technical malfunction and would not post:

My comment: Aside from the 3-point woes, which or may not be troublesome all year - we'll see, am not ready to hit the panic button on that yet - the guards Friday had three assists and 14 turnovers. That's never going to cut it.
But, in my opinion, look for Youngblood to see increased playing time as the season goes on.
