Who gets 1-AA invite between MU and San Diego? (if there is one forth coming)
First of all....front page sports coverage from Steve Edelson in the Press coming Sunday with two stories and picture from Albany game....
Secondly: Anyone reading this attend the Albany game? Understand at last 300 MU fans were on their feet as the game ended. I am told by Steve it was an impressive scene.
My thinking..as it has been most of the season..is that if any Mid-Major football team gets a 1-AA invite it will be San Diego (10-0) and not MU (10-1) after USD blasted Dayton 56-14 Saturday night.
USD is 95 or 94 in the Sagarin poll, MU is 175. USD is ranked in the Top 25 in major polls..MU is not (also receiving votes). Schedule strengths about equal..San Diego 231, MU 235.
This from AP Saturday on San Diego
SAN DIEGO (AP) -Josh Johnson threw for four touchdowns, ran for two more and caught yet another as San Diego extended its winning streak to 18 games with a 56-14 win over Dayton on Saturday night.
Johnson, the Division I-AA total offense leader, accounted for 373 yards as he completed 26 of 31 passes for 316 yards and ran for 57 yards on 8 carries.
San Diego (10-0, 7-0 Pioneer Football League), which won its 19th straight home game, has the longest winning streak in Division I-AA.
The Toreros, who clinched their second straight PFL title last week, also broke a school record by starting the season with 10 consecutive wins. San Diego has won 26 of its last 27 games.
Dayton (4-6, 1-6) finished with its first losing season since 1976.
This interesting note tonight from the AP after Drake win Saturday...
Drake (9-2, 6-1) finished second in the Pioneer League. The Bulldogs could gain a berth in the Gridiron Classic if league champion San Diego receives an invitation to the NCAA I-AA Football Championship as an at-large participant....
Soo.... Drake would visit MU and not San Diego if this were to be the case.
Would both (MU and SDU) get 1-AA at-large invites? Can't see that.
