Tyler Azzarelli sighting, etc.
Was over at Monmouth Wednesday afternoon to wrap up the football story for Thursday and, of course, took in a little pick up hoops as well. And who was there, running the point as crisply as ever? Tyler Azzarelli.
No he doesn't have another year of eligibility. Tyler told me he is a graduate assistant at Villanova. I guess Villanova figured since Tyler almost beat them he'd better join them (kidding!).
Tyler said he almost got a job on the Temple staff but eventually landed at 'Nova and hopes this is the first step in a coaching career. A bright young man like Tyler I would think has a great future along with his back court buddy, Chris Kenny, who will be hired officially later this year on the Monmouth staff.
It seems like yesterday that Tyler was a freshman and I was watching him in the gym..as I was observing Jhamar ""the Jet"' Youngblood, Rickie ""the Rookie"" Crews, and some of the other frosh and some of the rest of the team Wednesday.
As of late afternoon football coach Kevin Callahan had not yet decided as to who will replace freshman guard Shawn Wright (broken leg) on the depth chart.
I will not see MU again in person until the football game at Wagner Saturday (am still pondering attending the 9am hoops practice).
I am looking forward to seeing the Point Boro-Squan game Friday night which will be Game One of the Press' RallyCast weekend doubleheader. But it's gonna be collllllld.
Here's what we have coming in the Press the next few days on MU - Thursday: Feature on the football PALS program, former MU players mentoring the current freshman and sophomores. Very worthwhile program started by Callahan.
Friday: Women's hoops practice preview.
Saturday: Men's hoops practice preview featuring interview with Corey Hallett. Football advance on Wagner game.
Sunday: Monmouth-Wagner game story.
Monday: Monmouth-Wagner follow story.
Tuesday I'll be back at MU to check out football and hoops practice.
