Calloway needs to lighten up and do something for the fans that do so much in support of the Monmouth Hawks men's basketball program (and him for the last decade or so). I have traveled to Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and will probably be going to Virginia to start of this year in the Cox Commun. Tourney. I offer my endless support, even now as I have graduated from MU last year. I feel that MU fans deserve a March Madness THIS YEAR! Complete with t-shirt give-aways, free mini balls and even some merchandise that will be available for purchase. Monmouth's program is too good not to have a Midnight Madness, which hopefully will be a preview of the next March Madness party we will be having this year. Dave Calloway we love you, start loving us back!

ATTENTION: Dave Calloway! It is time for you to lighten up and give back to the MU faithful that have been giving so much to Monmouth Hawk basketball (and you personally for the past decade or so). I have traveled to New York, Pennsylvania and Florida over the last few years following this team; and probably will be in Virginia to start this year at the Cox Communications Classic. I feel that coach Calloway and Monmouth University should reward it's fans with a real Midnight Madness complete with t-shirt and mini ball giveaways along with a chance for us to see these freshmen before traveling 7 hours to get a glimpse. The Monmouth program has become too good to not have a Midnight Madness program, everyone involved deserves it. I've seen Calloway rejoice in a March Madness celebration, so why not have this Midnight Madness celebration as a preview of things to come in just a few short months? We love you Coach Calloway and our support shows it, now start showing us how much you love us.

Again..I think it would be fun for the fans and I personally, don't see it as detracting from the team's performance (God forbid somebody gets hurt at one of these and that might be the end of your faithful blogger). Anyway, it's also probably too late for this season..but in the future could be something for MU hoops to look into.

I attended the last Midnight Madness MU held & have been waiting for it to occur again. Why hasn't it? It was a great night out for the faithful fans -- let's get the spirit started early again!!

Tony,
You need to send Coach Calloway our posts in backing this idea. He needs to know how much the MU community would appreciate this type of activity.

Midnight Madness at the Beach!! Sounds like a hit and a great way to get the fans into the season in full swing right from the getgo. Just tell coach that most of the other NJ D1 schools have something special for the fans and the players on that first practice. Maybe that'll be the competitive influence he needs.

Tony,

Since Calloway seems against a Midnight Madness event, how about suggesting something that was done here about 15 years ago (I'm sure you remember it) that was very popular.
If you recall, after every home game at the time, fans could go back to the hall in the student center for pizza & drinks to schmooz with the players & coaches (and hopefully, celebrate together). The pizza was provided free by MU, brought in by the truckload & placed on separate tables where groups of people would gather) and the drinks were sold. We could even PAY for the pizza now if need be!
I just think it would bring back a nice thing for those who experienced it, and start a new tradition for those who missed it.

Re: Walk ons. Calloway said there will be tryouts Monday. Did not give me any names or candidates.

Re: mid night madness suggestion: Calloway said there is a post game get together for Blue/White members and that it is actually called the Varsity Club. Before every home game and at halftime, they go to a room that has food and beverage. After every home game, he comes in and offers his thoughts on how the game went and why he made certain decisions. (I gotta go to one of these, sounds better than a press conference!) Then people can ask questions and he usually goes around to each table and spends some time with them. He said it has actually become a big part of MU's fund raising, as you have to give anually to become a member and actually give a certain amount to be able to attend the Varsity Club.
