Three questions
1. Will MU make the NEC Tournament? Among teams they have remaining on the schedule includes two games with FDU, one with RMU, and one with SHU...three of those games are at home (one FDU, and the other two).
2.. Does MU have any hope for a winning season? They need to go 9-2 rest of the way in the NEC regular season bringing them to 16-14, or ..if they are 15-15 going into the NECs off an 8-3 run, win their first two games in the NECs. So, no worse than 10-3 in that span.
Again.. the standings...
School NEC Pct. Overall Pct Streak Home Away Neutral
1. Sacred Heart 6-1 .857 10-8 .556 W3 5-0 4-7 1-1
Central Conn. St. 6-1 .857 9-10 .474 W4 5-4 4-3 0-3
3. Fairleigh Dickinson 4-2 .667 9-8 .529 W1 4-3 4-5 1-0
4. Mount St. Mary's 5-3 .625 6-13 .316 L1 4-3 2-10 0-0
5. Quinnipiac 4-3 .571 6-10 .375 W4 4-3 2-7 0-0
6. Robert Morris 4-4 .500 12-5 .706 W1 8-1 4-4 0-0
7. Wagner 3-4 .429 6-12 .333 W1 4-5 2-7 0-0
8. Long Island 3-5 .375 7-12 .368 L3 5-4 2-8 0-0
9. St. Francis (NY) 3-6 .333 5-16 .238 W2 3-4 2-10 0-2
10. Monmouth 2-5 .286 7-12 .368 L4 5-2 1-9 1-1
11. St. Francis (PA) 1-7 .125 4-15 .211 L10 3-7 1-8 0-0
3. What is the MOST important factor in turning this season around? The big men, guard play, defense, etc. You make the call.
To me - For one thing, they need to score points. Averaged 53.5 points on the road trip. That's not going to cut it.

The most important thing the team needs to do is relax and become a TEAM. Marques needs to call a meeting and lay down the law and lead the team forward. The line up and the play calling is up to the Coach, the players have to want to WIN.If they want it ,then we will see a change.
TG,
I think the big men need to suit up and actually play. I like both Bunch and Corey, but right now they arent doing anything at all. Their production is about as good as not even being in the game. This statement is not out of disrespect to either of them but just looking at the numbers and the production.
I would still like to see one player stand up and get in the other players faces and tell them to dig deeper, try harder and leave it on the floor.
What ever happened to a players only meeting called by the upperclassmen? One of the seniors needs to hold a meeting with his teammate and get "real" with them. Have each of them look in the mirror and have them look at themselves and see what they are made of. This is not acceptable for a team that had so much promise to be at the bottom of the NEC standings. There is no way that you can be 7'2" and not dominate the boards and be a force in a league that bearly has 7 footers. Come on fellas dig deep and salvage the rest of this season. The true fans will be in the stands to support you all the way!
All players WANT to win....on any team. I don't beleive that's an issue. Some times it's how badly they want it.
As for Marques..I believe he is trying, or has tried to lead. He is certainly the popular choice of fans to be the leader.
Bob - good post (as usual). MU has to hope the loss to Quinnipic doesn't haunt them..and the way this year is going..it might.
On the other hand.. a win over RMU Saturday in the only game between the teams in the regular season could be pivotal in connection with - home games, seedings, or even making the NECs.
.
Bob - but wasn't it more exciting when every game was vital - for FIRST PLACE?!@..
But yes, the games do have some drama attached, making this home stand maybe their most critical since Rahsaan's first year when MU returned to the NECs.
I think they can go 7-4 the rest of the way, even with the way they've been playing lately, though admittedly I may be being overly optomistic. The LIU and CCSU losses were really close games and I think Monmouth will win the re-matches. Unfortunately, while I think they can sneak into the NEC tournament, they won't be there very long. As far as what I think is most important, it's obvious, the offense. I'd like to see the big guys score a little more, but Hallett has never really been a scorer the whole time he's at MU, and Bunch is obviously having a rough year offensively, something that has been gone over ad nauseum by the other posters.
I've got one thing to say...Jhamar please dont transfer. Thank you.
Honest to god, I think this team just needs to get rolling. If they click, and of course I mean a big if, this team is CAPABLE of going 9-2. Not saying they will, but they have that kind of talent and potential.
For what it's worth I have no knowledge of any such plans.
John..I'll try to answer your question without posting it since it was a little ragged..it was about how the players feel about Calloway.
I haven't done a poll but right now, I would say, the players may not be too happy with the coaches and vice versa, or even with each other at times.
I know Dave cares about the players and does his best to get them a solid education as well as a winning basketball experience.
Dave tried everything on the trip..to the morning at the movies (game films of the Sacred Heart fiasco), to - yes- yelling - to blaming himself in part for the defeat at CCSU..and back to being very upset again Monday night.... to calling plays from the bench (CCSU), to letting them play.
You have any other suggestions?.
The team is well prepared for games whether it shows it or not.
If players aren't paying attention (if that's the case) there's not much anyone can do.
In practice for the SFNY game special attention was placed on guarding number 3 - Jamaal Womack - a 5-8 guard who shoots 3's. So - what happens..he gets loose and hits 3 of his first four from deep.
MU ran through its offensive drills and sets in practice Sunday.
Sooooo...in the game.. when it mattered most.. the Hawks were jacking 3' and turning it over.
It's like in baseball...you send in a pitcher.. tell him to throw low and away.. and he hangs a slider.
Eventually it always, always, comes down to the players.
The MU system and philosophy is sound. It's worked for years including last year with much of this same team.
I guess they liked Calloway then.
Why dont alumni come around very much then? There are just a handful of players that come around regularly from what I see. Do you see it differently Tony? This just doesnt feel right, it feels like there would be more support at such a successful program for this level. No?
Don't know really. What amounts to more alumni? Especially at a small school such as MU.
I do see some alumni now and then as you do apparently at various games.
MU does have an alumni game every year but, in my opinion, it's never very well promoted or advertised..
MU could do a better job of reaching out to former players but that's really up to their marketing folks which has not historically, before and since Tom Manzo, proven to be a strong point.
I don't think that they will get a .500 record. I'm just hoping they can a) win some games and b) recruit some quality players. To be honest, the women's team is actually more exciting to watch in the standings than the mens team is these days and its a shame they do not draw.
Regularly? Not many. I see Josh Peters, Dwayne Byfield, Will Lewis on occasion, sometimes Fernando Sanders, are names that come to mind.
More when they are winning and or playing in first place or championship type games at Boylan Gym.
Tony you dropped the ball on that one...Dave Calloway, Chris Kenny cmon? Jason Krayl is there often, as is Hammer Hamilton. Glen Stokes also comes around. I agree though, it would be nice to see some more pride taken in the program.
People that it would be nice to see:
John Giraldo-in NJ right?
Corey Albano
Mustafa-lives locally
Russ Anderson? never comes around
Rahsaan Johnson, though in DC it would be nice
Bridge?
How did I forget Jason? A lot depends on who lives where. And I do see Russ.
Calloway? Kenny? I guess they show up!
