Sacred Heart can't climb the Mount/MU visits SHU Thursday

Emmitsburg, Md. (January 8, 2006)--Mount St. Mary's had five players score in double figures in a 91-80 win over Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action at Knott Arena on Monday night. The Mount improves to 4-11 overall and 3-1 in the NEC with the victory.
Leading 58-55 with 11:39 remaining, the Mount went on an 8-0 run to take a 66-55 advantage with 9:02 on the clock. Freshman Kelly Beidler and junior Chris Vann each knocked down a three-pointer while Sam Atupem added a lay-up in the streak. The closest Sacred Heart (7-8, 3-1 NEC) would get the rest of the way was seven points.
Freshman Jeremy Goode paced the Mount with career highs of 19 points and nine assists while Vann added 16 points. It is the 14th-straight game Vann has scored in double figures for the Mount. Mychal Kearse (12), Beidler (11) and Atupem (10) also reached double figures in the win. It is the first time since an 85-75 win over Sacred Heart on Feb. 26, 2004 that the Mount has had five players reach double figures.
Joey Henley posted 25 points and nine rebounds to lead Sacred Heart. He was 13-for-14 from the foul line in the game. Jarrid Frye (11), Ryan Litke (10) and Luke Granato (10) also reached double figures in the loss.
Mount St. Mary's shot 57.9 percent (33-of-57) from the field for the game, its highest field goal percentage in a game for the Mount since shooting 59.7 percent in a 109-99 loss to Wagner on Jan. 22, 2000.
Game Notes: Beidler, who was named NEC Rookie of the Week earlier in the day, has scored in double figures in five straight games...The Mount improves to 10-4 all-time vs. Sacred Heart, including 6-1 at Knott Arena...Mount St. Mary's shot 62.1 percent from the field in the second half.
