Most exciting MU player ever in D1?
The last poster to "Shipman appealing" flashed a lightbulb as to this blog topic..especially with MU men idle for a few days..
Here are some nominees for "most exciting D1 MU player..""
Harrie Garris, Mustafa Barkdale, John Giraldo, Rahsaan Johnson, Blake Hamilton, others? D1 began in 1983-84.
Jhamar has potential here....but will not be eligible for nomination here until his career his compelete ...
Pre D1 folks may also post, but be sure to note it is before D1. Ron Kornegay, for instance, though I never saw him play.

Tony, Jhamar has played 15 games I dont know how he can be dubbed even a candidate yet. There are solid MU players who busted their butts for 10+ games. I would have to say Mustafa Barksdale. I loved watching Staf get in the passing lanes and run down the ball for a slam. Close #2 for me Rahsan Johnson. Harrie Garris was before my time, but Ive heard he was an exciteable player.
How about hardest working Hawks since D1 Tony? Give us some of your insight.
excuse me that should read 100+ games, but Im sticking to my story!
From the land of "what could have been" I'll go with Harrie Garris. The night he slammed dunked Rik Smits and Marist out of Alumni Gym was the 1st huge moment for the DI Hawks.
Re: Jhamar, right now, in my opinion, would be a "candidate" off what we have seen so far, that is all. See me in 3.5 years for final vote.
Hardest working..I think we have to some degree gone over this in prior blogs.. but Bridge and Russ would be two for sure...Tom Kaplan rates up there..How about Marques?
Joe Potkay comes to mind. Injury marred, brief career..tough kid, played very hard when he played
Going wayyyy back..Karl Towns (underszied 6-3 center). Maybe Andy Partee...good defensive point guard.
In the "hard working" category: , from current squad, Alex Nunner also beginning to earn some points with me.
Hayward. True.
The Marist game the first landmark, headline-making win for MU in D1 at Boylan, though one could argue the home win over FDU that season was even more important.
Harrie Garris is definitely the most exciting MU player in D1 history. I still pop in the 30-minute highlight film from the 1987-88 season just to see the "home run play" of Calloway to Garris in the Marist game.
Side note: Remember then AD-Joe Biedron (sp?) sitting on a steel folding chair by the locker room doors?
Hardest working: Corey Albano. He busted his rear on and off the court all four years to become the player he turned into.
Wow..you've got that film? Yeh..Harrie was very exciting, and talk about a smile! It stretched to Bangkok.
His most famous quote..one of the all-time MU DI 1 quotes (hmmm..another category perhaps) was after MU beat LIU at Boylan in Szoke's first year..Harrie said of LIU, ""They was bombing and bricking."
Corey..now there's a choice I never really thought of but it's s valid. He was so fluid out there he didn't appear to be "working" that hard but obviously he was.
and he turned himself from a rather skinny 3-point shooter as a freshman to maybe MU's best all time post player (along with AB of course and Blake).
He would get on the bus as a freshman ( I traveled with the team at the time) and he would be so discouraged.
Then he devloped a jump hook as a sophomore and his game just took off.
Joe Potkay, He played hard, but a gym rat, I think not!
I guess playing hard and working hard/gym rats are two different beasts right?
Playing hard vs. gym rats..Yes, I guess there would be a difference. I felt Potkay at least played hard..but certainly had to work hard to overcome his injuries.
FYI..am off now to the Press and the women's game..I'll check back on the blog later...keep the posts coming!. Good stuff!
I just saw this thread, but I'll make my late entry...its a tie for me, growing up if we're talking about most exciting; Mustafa Barksdale and Stev "Sticks" Barnes. Now if we talk about best player, my idol was John Giraldo growing up, and wearing the number 10 at MU had alot to do with idolizing John as a kid. Boy that seems weird to admit now at 24. Ok, im out Tony. Keep up the great work.
NICK BARNES!
You're a riot Alice..a regular riot!
