Tyson Johnson update

Tyson e-mailed me to let me - and everyone who has speculated about him - know how he is doing. He is playing for Blinn Junior College (13-10 as of Feb. 10) in Texas and is the No. 2 scorer in Region 14 averaging 19.9 points and shooting 44 percent from 3 (This is per Region 14 web site).

Said he had a 32 -point, 15 rebound game yesterday not reflected in the Region numbers yet.

He said he is being recruited by:

Miami
Oklahoma st.
Houston
South florida
Depaul
Indiana
UMKC
Indiana St
Wyoming

He has told me and others he enjoyed being at MU and generally blames himself for his problems last year.

Tyson is actually a really good, stand up guy. I know he let a lot of MU fans down (think about this year's team with him and Tyrone Hansen on it!) but personally I wish him nothing but the best, and hopefully I speak for other Monmouth fans when I say that.

Good for him. To bad he decided to grow up after he left MU.

Any chance of a comeback at Monmouth?

Unbelievable -- the schools looking at this guy and we had him.
Don't give me that line about him flunking out here, because BEFORE that, Calloway had him benched constantly -- doesn't that sound much like the Crews scenario??
Hmm, sounds a lot like the Brent Stephens scenario too, doesn't it?

Nice list, maybe Rickie will follow in his footsteps.Tony why don't you email "TYSON" back and ask him why it didn't workout from his point of view.

Sounds like a wish list for the tooth fairy...See him at LIU at best...or maybe Yale if his BB skills went up to the top level of play then why not his grades?

Tyson was steadily working his way into the MU rotation last year when he overslept (missed the bus) for the game at FDU.

..Crews has been discussed here more than world peace..

Stephens, in his freshman year, was No. 11 in a 10-man MU rotation.. then he left on his own...

Tyson has already generally said, though not in quotes or a formal interview, that he made many of his own problems last year.

He reads this blog. If he wants to further elaborate that's up to him, but I'm not going to ask him to re-hash.

Tyson to LIU? I don't think so. You seem a tad cynical if not bitter, which is understandable from a fan's viewpoint. I guess we'll see how it all plays out.

Wow. Congrats to Tyson to hear that hes doing good. He should have been a starter at MU if it wasnt for his mishaps off the court. (I would hear he had the most talent as a freshman as anyone whoever came to Monmouth.. this coming from some good sources. But things happen, i guess he is in a better situation now. Because MU is stumbling. May not even make the NEC tournament.

I think it's safe to say that had things worked out at MU for Tyson he would be in a very good situation - at MU, and the Hawks would have no worries about making the NECs...

I see Jon Jon Ager is there with Johnson at Blinn. He is another that left MU. I hear he is getting recruited by Atlantic 10 schools? What happend with him at Mu? I remember him as a real good shooter, and driver to the basket. Whats the story behind it?

As far as I know he failed out of MU that winter...I don't know how much he would have helped..who's spot would he have taken now?

Or - were he here - would MU have recruited Jhamar?

Whatever Tony, I am gonna hate to see what you guys do when your "Jet" takes flight. He is headed for the same scenerio. You guy can't keep a good player in your pocket if it had a snap button on it with a velcro overlay. Sorry but you MU is about to bite the dust AGAIN.

Oh, ok. In the region 14 site. i see ager is avg 8 and 5. Not bad at all. Him and Johnson went to the same highschool, then monmouth and now blinn. Good connection with one another. I think Ager would have been a 3 pt specialist. He didnt get a lot of minutes when h was there either.

Everyone on this board is unbelievable and most don't know what the heck they are talking about. He may be a "stand up guy" at heart, but Tyson showed none of that when he was at Monmouth. As someone else said, he missed the bus to a game, and he overslept and didn't show up in time for a HOME playoff game. There were also off the court issues. I'm glad to see he is doing well and wish him the best, but don't think that MU forced him out.

As for all the people who continue to badmouth Calloway and this team: Are you serious? You don't know what you're talking about. They are having a down year. It happens. They are a young team without veteran leadership. The one who could be that leader is Marques, but he leads by the way he plays. He is not an outspoken guy. Monmouth will be fine and back on the right track next year. If anyone honestly thinks that Calloway should be fired, you know nothing about college basketball.

Yeah Johnson did have some off the court problems but yeah like you said stuff does happen. Now he is in a better situation. And personally I like calloway a lot. But he doesnt know how to use his talent. AT ALL!!!.. He doesn't need to be fired but he needs to learn how to coach his talent

Please Tony, please no more about this kid. I dont care that he's doing well. He was not a good kid here, he does not play for us, I could care less he reads this, we dont want to hear about him. He has no relation to MU.
