Will MU men make the NEC Tournament/thoughts?
Who would have ever dreamed it would come to this?
Re: another post game comment on how MU was picked to finish in first place. Well, I picked them - second, and Robert Morris first.
As I have often said..don't bet the ranch, car, or your gold fish on my selections.
But - when you looked at it..MU had a seasoned front line returning including John Bunch and potential POY candidate in Marques Alston, and the young guards had showed considerable promise last year. And no one knew how good the "Jet" was going to be.
And RMU had its entire starting five back from a very dangerous team a year ago.
CCSU had good players back but didn't appear to have the size (they still don't) or enough weapons (they do!) to make a serious run at the top.
But everything has jelled for them, Monmouth can't get its act together, and - for the most part - has been unable to make the "winning plays" which is what I my translation of what Dave refers to as "" mental toughness" - when needed. And RMU? I really can't figure them out.
Anywhere, here is a look at the stretch run. Top eight teams qualify for the NECs.
NO defending NEC Tournament champion, going back to 1982-83 when the league began as the ECAC Metro Conference, has failed to qualify for the post season the following year. Exceptions were Marist (1987-88) and Robert Morris (90-91) when each team was banned from the NCAA Tournament for various misdeeds.
There have been some years the NEC allowed every team to qualify.

10 Comments:
The answer is NO . MU goes 1-3 and LIU goes 2-2 tied at 7-11, the tie goes to LIU.9th place and they stay home and look for answers.
I hate to say this and I love MU hoops but we are not making the tourney this year people. The team doesn't want it bad enough. You may all say they do, but when i look at them they are just not hungry. Chris Kenny shows more emotion than any of these guys and he's dressed in a suit and tie sitting on the bench. They are not hungry and don't want it bad enough. This is what gets you in to the tourney. Hunger and a willingness to leave it all on the floor at the end of the day. The "Jet" is the only kid on the floor that I can see who has hunger in his eyes. Thank god for him! Is Whitney Coleman still on the team? Where does he go after the tipoff?
8th spot vs CCSU and MU wins by 2 at the buzzer one more time by Marques PLEASE before he is gone....Bring on the PINK shirts I'll put anything on for a win...
8th place . MU vs CCSU and Marques hits the game winner at the buzzer... One more time before we say good by to MARQUES .Thank You Marques for 4 great years all the best.
Why should MU make the NEC tournament ? NO Mental Toughness by the Coach or the players..Calloway has lost his six year touch of knowing his players and how to "Push their buttons" The players say "NO SENSE OF URGENCY" Boy this sounds just like the Wayne Soke movie all over again.!10 good years then the wheels on the bus go round and round, then they fall off, they go 0-13 to begin 07/08 season, then the "Mid Night Move".Eggo's always bring down the Kings, Presidents, Ceo's and Coach's .It comes so hard and fast you don't see it unless you have seen this movie before.
I say we finish eighth, then its off with CCNY's head.
Sir Brickalot - I like the name. If MU plays CCNY I predict a win. It's CCSU that has Hawks' fans concerned.
Off with their heads too!
Chris Kenny acts like a complete fool on the sidelines, have you watched his embarassing hystrionics. Its called lack of maturity and knowing how to handle yourself, not emotion.
Hawks manage 7th or 8th in the playoffs, defeating CCSU first round in the playoffs 68-60, sending the Blue Devils home early, and all the critics of Monmouth Basketball into shut up mode. I have a lot of respect for this Hawks team despite their up and down moments, we are inconsistent at times, but when are defense is on, we are unstoppable. To call yourself a Hawks Fan and not believe in us making the playoffs, we need to beat St Francis PA, the worst team right now, yes they beat FDU, but Believe Me we are making the playoffs.
