So close! Deki and Marques were awesome tonight...the senior leadership finally came out. I'm still comfortable with Friday night's game...still think we have turned a corner even with this loss. Seems like we're finally gelling and I believe that Deki's prediction of making the tournament will come true.

Love some of the screen names on the during game post! Holy Hallet...that's great!

Yeh...some of the screen names were rather original...Sir Brickalot must have taken the night off....

Wonder what happened with Bunch?

What is up with the refs at the past couple of games?! They have had some awful calls and it seems like they are always against MU. Remember Brian O'Connell??? The whistle was glued to his lips! And two of the three at the last home game obviously had it out for us too. Were they the same guys tonight? Seemed like it.

they did not turn the corner. they still had the same problems:
1. missed free throws
2. poor defensive rotation
3. lack of killer instinct down the stretch of games
*i love deki, but you gotta hit those ft's....could change the game.
-there were some good offensive signs, but where was the defense? and what happened to bunch?

NEC playoff race
(top eight teams qualify)

The skinny: Monmouth hosts Sacred Heart Friday and ends the season Monday at St. Francis, Pa. Monmouth loses a tie-breaker with LIU but owns the tie-breakers with Wagner, Mount St. Mary's and Robert Morris. LIU visits St. Francis Pa. Saturday and Robert Morris Monday. Hawks could miss the playoffs or, perhaps, finish as high as fifth via tiebreakers if they win their last two games. A fourth place and a home game in the firrst round of the playoffs appears remote.

NEC records

1. Central Conn. State 14-2

2. Quinnipiac 10-5

3 .Sacred Heart 10-6

4. FDU 9-7

5. Robert Morris 8-7

6. Mount St. Mary's 8-8

7. Wagner 7-8

8. Monmouth 7-9

9. LIU 6-10

10. St. Francis, NY 5-11

11. St. Francis, Pa. 2-13

Just talked with Steve Edelson who was at the game for the Press

..Dave did not use Bunch in the second half because he felt MU was scoring OK and needed to play better defense on 3-point shooters....Bunch was not injured...

Steve's story will be on the blog soon...

Re the refs: when you start blaming the refs you are a losing team....they were fortunate to win Saturday night...in that there was no call at the end of the game...the kid probably charged but a call still could have gone the other way.

..MU has struggled in games up for grabs late..since the win at Rider, MU is 1-5 in games decided in the final mintes...including Saturday and tonight...

Re Bunch: I believe that was what Steve told me...hopefully it will be in his story....

I see Dave's point if that was the case...Bunch does not cover the corners well....Don't know I agree with it though...

I think your assessment of Dave is a little harsh ..let's see what the story says....

I have, repeat HAVE, been a Dave Calloway supporter in the past, but that ended tonight. We needed this W in the worst way, and what does he do? He grounds our most effective player from the 1st half. Bunch had at least 11 points 5 rebounds and a block or two in the first half. Correct me if I am wrong, but those numbers for a half of game, are better than any single game Corey Hallet has had this year, maybe even two combined games. This is inexcuseable on Dave's part. This is treason, punishable by mutinty. UNBELIEVABLE! This team wont even make the NEC tourney. Forget the little voice in Barlow's head, I want to hear the little voice in Davey boy's head.

I, personally, from listening to the game and reading about it, would have played Bunch in the second half.

However, MU did cut down on the LIU threes (4-for-14) in the second half. Would it have yielded more were he in there against this particular team? Who knows.

When Bunch is in the game, normally MU's offense slows down, which in turn tends to cut down on opposing possessions.

But all that being said, MU had the lead in the second half, and couldn't finish it.

Blame Dave if you will. Bottom line - this team has so far under achieved this year - plain and simple.

When I get my badge, the first thing i'm doing is arresting Coach Calloway for impersonating a coach!

"Officer Alston" - I like that one, too.

You folks who are trashing Calloway.....you are entitled to your opinions - even if they are - in my opinion - way over the edge.

I don't agree with not playing Bunch in the second half tonight either - though I see his reasoning.

Eventually I will end the trashing that is coming in just for trashing's sake.

From now on say what YOU would have done - why - and how it would have won the game...

This season - for the most part - has come down to - when MU really needs a defensive stop - it doesn't get it (I guess except for the MSM game Saturday)..

MU was down double digits in the first half..but I think Bunch was also in there for a while when they made the comeback near the end of the half....

Whether he played or not in the second half..they had a chance to win ....Amazingly MU outshot LIU in the second half 68 percent to 48 percent and from 3, MU 5-for-12;LIU 4-for-14 , but for the game LIU was 21-for-29 from the line - MU was 8-for-13.

Am not getting on the refs...MU wasn't going to the hole enough it seems to me...

But also along with Deki's missing on the 1-and-1 late in the game ...MU failed on two others late in the first half...

If MU could have made a few more timely FTs this year it might have two, three more wins.....

Tony... from the blog during the game... the comment about bunch getting hurt on ice? Last Thursday, the day of the CCSU game, the big fella slipped on black ice in the morning. He was questionable throughout the day. I apologize for not mentioning more that Bunch wasn't in the game, but I was not going to harp on whose on the bench, rather who is on the floor.

Looking ahead..LIU has swept the PA trip ONCE (2002-2003) on the histories listed on the NEC web site going back to 99-00.....I think they will lose at least one of the games..

.but I think MU has to win one of its last two as well to assure itself of an NEC berth....

If there is a three-way tie between MU, Wag, and LIU, then it's more complicated far as can see. MU would help itself big time with a in over SHU Friday,

To Bob Curran - care to break down that three -way tie for us?

Once again we go to the line and can't hit a big shot. Come on Deki, you have to hit those. I see you after practice taking extra shots. This is what seniors do! As far as Whitney Coleman, I said this in a previous posting and someone said leave him alone...he disappears in the game never to be heard from. What happens to him? Can someone prove me wrong on this? I hope I am wrong.

How many AD have Calloway on their coaching list? Dr. Maryilyn Mc Neil should start thinking about her list of NEW Coaches, why not start now ? just take a few more seats out of the MAC and use the savings to buy out Calloway's contract and start rebuilding the program now.

Adding top the screen name highlights:

Please hit a free throw...

Yes....Deki does practice the FTs all the time..

..Whitney I think defers to the seniors and others much of the time....He needs to be more of an offensive force..I'd like to see him attack the basket more..

BUT - MU scored enough points last night to win.....

On Dave...

Marilyn McNeil has an ask the AD prompt on the MU web site....I'm sure she'd be delighted to hear from you...

Some points:

1. Dave is in year one of a four-year contract..

2. Schools at MU's level rarely dispatch coaches early in contracts

3. I guess you forgot (or have chosen to forget) Dave won three titles and was in the hunt each of last six years vs. teams that at times had more talent....

4. I realize it's a "what have you done for me lately world" - Dave has done a heck of a lot for MU as a player and coach since he got here from high school..

Whether Bunch should or should not have played the second half last night is not the issue...

Is this a disappointing year? Yes. Has Dave done a great job this year? The record answers that question.

But no one wins forever. Remember - Krayl also has a huge part in coaching decisions.

Is it time for him to go too? Did he and Dave forget how to coach this year?

5. Dave deserves a whole lot more respect and a much, much longer leash than you and others are showing him...

Tony I think you are right, Whitney has to step up and do more to help the team. He is an explosive player when he wants to be and a dead-eye shooter. Come on Whit...step up and be the player we know you can be!

Lets compare Wayne Szoke 10 year run with Calloways 10 year run without crying about how and what a GREAT job both did for MU Basketball, just maybe you will see the issues are so much a like .

and the issues are? - aside from both being successful (even incluing Calloway's difficult start)..
