My thoughts on the Stockton game

General review: ...MU did what it had to do to win back some respect and credibility, at least with itself.

1. I didn't think the MU 3-point defense exhibited much improvement in closing out on shooters.. RSC is just not a good 3-point team.

2. Yes..Bunch looked good but he's got to do it against taller, stronger players where he was successful at times last season and also against Rider, and sporadically at other times this season. No question he is moving better..and MU, in my opinion, must look to get him the ball. He will pass it out or hit cutters if double and triple teamed.

3. Corey Hallett: I liked the fact he tried to force his way inside a few times though results weren't great. Barlow probably does have more offensive potential. Shawn is actually a very good shooter from 15-18 feet. But is he ready for more than cameo appearances? He has to make progress in practice where, not his fault at times, he sometimes doesn't get that much of a run either. If Corey continues to stuggle maybe Dave gives him a few more minutes in games, just my guess. Dave has done this with Nunner who has shown increasing improvement after his 1-for-12 start from 3 for the season.

4. Youngblood's prognosis? He was sick today and Alston was not feeling well either according to Dave. I don't know if "the Jet" is going to start when the season resumes, my inclination is no, but I believe he will see increased action. He's (Jhamar) got to be out there.

5. Is Shipman the MU point guard of the future, or do they need a more ball-control patient guard? Shipman's assists to turnovers has been great lately.

My only problem with Ship is sometimes shooting too early in the shot clock. Then again, I have this problem with the whole team. I'd like to see him drive and dish more.

Having said that, if Delic is open he might as well let it fly (as long as he's hitting of course). He appears to be "in the zone." I agree with Jason Krayl on Coleman and Bunch. They need to be significant factors at both ends of the floor if MU is to be a factor in the NEC.

5. Is Alston sluggish this year? Not sure. In my view (and I guess yours, too) he may not be exploding to the basket as he has in prior years. Hard to say. He may be having some knee or back problems but no one has said anything.

In summation: I guess Monmouth would win the NJAC (D3 New Jersey Athletic Conference). Aside from that, I don't know what Sunday's game proved except that Bunch appears to be as healthy as he has been in a while, and at least that could be a significant development.

Also ..Though RSC coach Gerry Matthews hopes to continue the series next year Dave told me he is probably going to play D 3 William Paterson in the 2007=2008 preseason...but "down the road" may play RSC again. Apparently Dave wants to play mainly different NJ D3 schools in the preseason.

Also II: I will be going out of town on vacation for a few days ..BUT... will take my trusty computer along and will be talking to Dave after practice resumes Wednesday to check on developments and will be keeping my ears open for additonal MU football news. So do not hesitate to post at any time on any MU/local college subject..

Also III: As for the MAAC - I am told MU and its lawyers will gather after the holidays to marshall their forces and decide on a course of action. I have also suggested that WMCX and the OUTLOOK get involved in some manner.

and one more thing...

EAGLES...how sweet it was!!!

Tony,

Glad to see MU is looking into legal options re the MAAC. I don't want to see them give up on this.

Those fools from WLB with a chip on their shoulder against the school about something have to be forced to give a court a LEGITIMATE REASON for their stand.

If --
(1)traffic experts for BOTH sides (as mentioned in one of your articles) have determined that the MAAC will cause no problems
(2)the MAAC will be contained entirely within the property of MU & will not stick out 10 stories tall and ruin the landscape of WLB
(3)MU has agreed to a limit on capacity events held there
(4)MU has agreed to foot the bill for police & security during capacity events

I don't see how a court can reasonably refuse MU with all these facts. Our 'neighbors' from WLB can't simply say 'I don't want it' to a judge -- they must show a REAL reason for their objections.

Well said. WLB has no legitamate reasons other than spite, selfishness, and politics.

Also they are interfering with a project that would directly or indirecetly benefit an institute of higher learning which I am told is against the law.

WLB, in my opinion (which is by no means that of an expert) , will be defeated incourt as were there objections to the dorms.

The problem is how many times and who will appeal the eventual defeat just to drag it on and on. But eventually they will run out of appeals.

In my view this is an embarrassment for the entire town. Maybe if the issue percolates it will attract the attention of TV 12, NYC TV, and other media outlets.

Again, this comes back to students getting involved. Nothing attracts more media focus than student protests and causes, and students always do this so well.

Tony, Does the Mayor have any respect for our young people? They are our future and they are the ones on the front line in the middle east.Did she send any reguards to the fallen MU student this fall when he died fighting for our country. The answer is no,that sums her up.Now it is time for the Outlook and WMCX to rally the students when they return.I would like to see a MAJOR event with TV and major media coverage to highten this spite, selfishness.

I agree with you but I have pretty much said all I can (in the Press anyway) on this subject.. at least for now..

It's up to MU and its students to make the next move...

Tony,

The residents of WLB must become educated to understand that two people, Joseph and Pamela Hughes have started all this decention between Monmouth and the goverening body from the beginning.

They both have successfully raised up Monmouth's neighbors and told them that Monmouth is taking over. Of course the neighbors became concerned after the Hughes' told them that Monmouth is going to steamroll parking lots right up to their front door and their property value wouldn't be worth anything.

The Hughes' backed the Mayor and her council in a corner and forced their support on there fruitless journey.

Look back at the coalition against Monmouth and how many members it had from inception. Now it seems that Joe and Pam Hughes are down to single digits with their membership.

The residents are starting to understand exactly what is going on here. Time is certainly breaking down the Hughes' army against Monmouth.

Our current Mayor and Council are spineless. They appointed in-experienced members to the zoning and planning board to satisfy the cries of the Hughes'

The WLB residents need to pressure the goverening body to admit their foolish decisions that have led to using taxpayor dollars to sue each other.

Additionally, the WLB residents need to step up to their civic duty and demand that the Mayor and Council act appropiately, intelligently and make decisions in the best interest of the entire community not just Joseph and Pam Hughes.

If they are not able of being impartial they must leave their positions.

Appointing puppets will get them in trouble one day. Believe me it's happened to those who never thought that their skeletons would be exposed.

Again, educating the community is the answer. We will need many people to write to your editor to get this word out.

The majority of WLB residents are favorable of Monmouth and will begin to speak out. It's the dwindling minority of WLB residents which consists of the Mayor, Council, 3 board members and the Hughes' that are going to be drowned out.

A word to the wise. Take the emotion out of the issues and make good rational decisions. This is the key to sucess!

Tony,

WLB residents need to attend the next Council meeting and confront the Mayor with the recent decision of the MAC. They need to ask her how these new members were appointed. Who appointed them and why? With just a little background and a few questions asked, it will be revealed that the Mayor is the person holding the strings of these board members. Someone needs to to the digging. You won't need to dig real deep. It's almost showing from the surface.

I have forwarded these last two blogs to managing editor Gary Schoening.

Am repeating my earlier comment on a prior blog...

You and others should e-mail our news dept. - metro editor John Schoonejongen (jschoone@app.com), Investigations Editor Paul D'Ambrosio (pmd@app.com), and Managing Editor Gary Schoening (garys@app.com) with any concerns, issues, knowledge, you feel it would be important for them to be aware of re: the government of WLB.

Personally..I think it is up to the residents of WLB, or any community for that matter, to rid themselves of irresponsible leaders.

In WLB..if there indeed are citizens outraged, upset, etc. over this decision by the WLB zoning board they, as you point out, need to be appearing at Boro council meetings and asking some serious questions..
