Happy Holidays to all

Just want to wish everyone a Merry Xmas and a big "thank you" for continuing to help make this the most read blog originated at the Press...

It has been an eye-opener for me to find out how many people (a growing number) have found this blog and take MU athletics to heart. I do not beleive even the coaches of some of the sports or the editors at the Press realize the passion and knowledge of many MU fans.

I am not going to bug any MU coaches for the next few days but will continue to welcome any comments, thoughts, etc. right here or on other published blog topics which I will keep an eye open for.

I plan on attending MU men's hoops practice Wednesday and or Thursday.

Remember..this blog is for all local college sports..all MU athletics, but also if anyone ever wants to comment on Georgian Court, Brookdale, Ocean, please feel free to do so.

Merry Christmas Tony, thanks for giving us a place to voice our opinions on MU sports.
I think WMCX (Monmouth's radio station)should have a live coaches show the day before home games where caller can call in and talk about the upcoming game, also a post game call in show right after the game and talk with the play-by-play guys who cover the game.
While driving home from the Seton Hall game a few weeks back with some buddies who are SH fans, we listened to the live call in post game show. It was pretty cool that a college radio station could take it to that level. Little things like that go a long way with the fans.

Tony,

Merry Christmas to you. Great job with the blog. Always look forward to your's and fan's view points.

If you get a chance read the Scorecard section in Sports Illustrated this week. There's a one-pager on Herb Magee, men's hoops coach at Philadelphia University (nee Philadelphia Textile) and his 40 years there and 800 plus wins.

We talk alot about the MU's DI history but I can remember going to see Bill Boylan's teams play these guys when I was a kid. The Textile teams were national powers at that level at the time and Monmouth was right up there. Those MU teams had Ernie Bellinger, Jack Hill, Bob Wymbs, Gary Massa, etc. I'm not sure how they would stack up against today's team's but thru the eyes of a youngster those guys were big time players.

Forgive my digression but for a college hoops fan it's worthwhile reading - he could have gone on to bigger things but stuck to his roots because he enjoyed the simplicity of coaching at that level.

I remember those MU teams fairly well.

In 1975-76 MU, then D 2, started the season 12-0 and was highly nationally ranked in D2.

Phila Textile invaded Alumni Memorial Gymnasium as it was then called - Bill Boylan was the MU coach - and Magee and Textile made off with 79-74 win over a Hawks team with Jack Hill, Ernie Bellinger, Gary Massa, and Bill Terry.

According to the MU media guide Wymbs played only in 76-77 though that could be incorrect.

Ray Lena and I attended the game..I believe Ray covered it for the Press. He was generally MU 'beat writer" there in the 70's.

MU went on to a 22-5 season and fell at home in first round of the D2 playoffs that 75-76 season.

And, frankly I'd put that D2 team right up there with any number of MU D1 teams (not Al Bs or Giraldo's teams) but quite a few others, including very possibly this one.

Tony,
Merry Christmas.
Thank you for your blog, I read it daily.
Your updates and insights are very informative. Also the comments from others are a big plus.
Since it appears you have been a good boy this year, I am sure Santa left you many gifts - maybe a new basketball and football to toss around in your spare time.
Continue with the good work you are doing and remember, the Easter bunny arrives after basketball season.

Re: Radio. I agree with you 150 percent on calls ins, pre-games, post games, etc.

SHU college station has been doing this for years.

I am certain MU has the technology available.

It's all about whether WMCX and the school care about being first rate in this area - ..or not.
