MU women's hoops update
From what I hear MU women won by about and maybe over 20 points Saturday vs. St. Peter's (which is usually pretty good) in a closed scrimmage at Boylan Gym, apparently led in scoring by Brooke McElroy and Jen Bender... and Marbley Montas continues to play very well
On the injury front Lakia Barber saw action (did OK) but Marisa Jimenez was still out as was Brianne Edwards....
Hawks open Friday at Rider.
MU women's hoops fans should be excited about this season....

No updates since this thread..But I will check around mid week..I'd say from preseason scrimmages they appear ready to go...Kia is back..not sure about Marisa yet..Brianne (as has been the case) out til around Thanksgiving...
Press preview story on the women will run here probably tomorrow
tony rumor has it marisa jimenez is in the hospital dont know the details
I heard Sunday she was ill...but was going to wait until mid week to see what - if anything - was happening.
I will call Michele Wednesday (tomorrow).....
Again..luckily - they are a deep team...and have gotten by so far without her and Brianne..because Mo Ware has been playing well and with the addition of Marbely...
she was in the gym today not practicing heard it was somekind of surgury though
mr graham the roster shows a team that has nice size from the guards, fowards and centers with that and the experience they have do you think they can compete and beat the likes of villanova,st johns and miami.
Maimi was picked 10th in the 12-team ACC..that is the ACC though...just went to their (Miam) U web site..they have a 6-4 senior center..don't really know how good she is..but this is the ACC..
Where the 2006-07 Hurricanes lacked size and depth, the future looks much brighter for Miami. The squad returns their second-leading scorer, senior Maurita Reid (50-8 guard) and a host of other promising veterans and first-year players. Reid averaged 14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and a team-high 3.2 steals per game from her off-guard position.
On the Nova web site..
Nova picked 12th in the 16-team Big East..
.
Villanova returns eight letterwinners and four of its starters from last season, including the forward tandem of senior Stacie Witman (6-1 senior) and 6-1 junior Lisa Karcic. Witman averaged 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season and Karcic contributed 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds while making a team-high 61 three-pointers.
St. Johh 's was picked to finish 11th in the league, while Kia Wright (5-8 senior guard) was named an honorable mention preseason All-BIG EAST selection.
MU stayed with SJU last year before losing late ....
I would say MU may make at least one or more of these games close and two are at home (Nova and SJU) for whatever that's worth..
This may be overly optimsitic on my part but MU should have a shot to steal one of these three....just a feeling on my part
Usually..like with men's hoops...it's the athleticism and strength of these teams that is the problem...
MU will have to hit the boards in these games and has been a good rebounding team...
MU PG Marbely Montas chose Monmouth over St. John's..
i believe that monmouth could possibly upset st.john's and villanova at home
Re: upsets. Great minds think alike.
I agree with you....but....let's see how MU looks in its first two game and also how SJU and Nova fare.
By the way.. one can follow the MU-Rider game radio play-by-play on the Rider web site.. follow the links.
The men's game is on live Colgate video but I figure there is a fee..
MU-Rider women's game was moved up to 5 p.m. to accomodate a wrestling match apparently
