MU men's hoops: sophomore forward Rickie Crews suspended for preseason game Sunday

From what I was told Crews' ""violation of a team rule" is for a minor offense (usually these are for being late for a team function, a shoot around, a practice, etc. ) and that he played fairly well in the closed scrimmage Thursday at Lafayette. But he's ""The Phantom"" again for a day. It's too bad because he had apparently won a starting job in preseason. He's expected to be back at practice Monday and to play Friday vs. Colgate.

Otherwise, Calloway plans to play everyone. Monmouth returns only two regulars, guards Jhamar Youngblood and Whitney Coleman from last year's 12-18 team. The Pioneers have three starters back from last year's 15-10 team with senior point guard Joey Spiegel their returning leading scorer (12.2 ppg., 2.7 aqg.). The roster includes sophomore guard Corey Brown (Toms River North) and freshman guard Mike Gawronski (Brick). Monmouth opens its 2007-2008 season 7 p.m. Friday at Colgate.

Game time is 4 p.m. at Boylan Gym

For the sake of MU fans I'm being optimistic here.

Rickie had been doing well in preseason, on and off the court far as I know until now. And perhaps this is just a glitch in his progress.

I'll have an update after tomorrow's game...

If he uses his head & some common sense, he should be an impact player. I agree, give him chance!!!

It's like we never left last season! The headline stays fixed -- 'Crews suspended'

I've never, EVER, seen anything like this guy! He has an uncanny knack for getting himself in trouble -- and always just when the fans are getting ready to FINALLY see his debut! What a waste!

This is it ... no more chances after this for him! If it happens ONE more time, I say ship him out the door with Shipman and let's start rebuilding the program with guys who are motivated to be playing at this level.

As I said before....Rickie has been doing well in preseason in all areas....I tend to beleive this is a minor slip up....last I heard he should be at the game Sunday on the bench in street clothes.....if he is.. then I think he's on track to return to practice Monday.....

Don't give up on him yet....nice kid, very talented...just a little immature..

Score of WP game...does it matter? Well, it would if they lose.

WPP has no experienced size to speak of...I think MU, though playing everyone but MU Mystery coach, wins rather easily

Say.. 77-57, around there..
