Land mark news for MU fans/Game Tracker and Streaming Video to debut on MU web site this fall
For Jim Grossman in NJ and for MU fans any where on the planet this is really big news -
MU SID Greg (Mr. Philadelphia Eagle) Viscomi told me Wednesday that GAME TRACKER and STREAMING VIDEO are planned for the MU web site beginning this 2007-2008 season for home events for the sports of football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. Women 's lacrosse will be covered via Game Tracker and MU is ""looking into some streaming for that as well,'' Viscomi said.
If you're wondering about soccer, MU cannot get the necessary wired internet out to the Great Lawn, according to Viscomi. In my view this is a shame since MU men may be nationally ranked and women should also be very good. Apparently the only way to do that would be to install some sort of a permament hook up out to the Great Lawn.
Or MU soccer could - I guess - this is just my thinking - move to Kessler Field where the internet is readily available.
Eventually - I think - if MU soccer continues to mush room in stature the school will have to work something out to make it available on the internet via - Game Tracker and or Streaming Video and or on WMCX.
Anyway, the streaming video , in my opinion, is the big news and a huge step forward in the web world for MU bringing it up to par with some other schools in the Northeast Conference and many nation wide.
""I think we're looking at two camera shots for football and the two basketballs and possibly two camera shots for baseball,'' Viscomi said.
For football and hoops, MU plans to patch its video into its WMCX radio broadcasts and apparently will do the same for baseball if baseball games are broadcast.
With the newly renovated baseball stands and newly built enclosed press box (the entire facility looks teriffic) I would hope MCX will commit to baseball as it does for football and hoops.
For that matter it should also broadcast at least men's and women's soccer - in my opinion.
Viscomi said that for the Streaming Video there will be options for a monthly and a yearly fee for which numbers have yet to be worked out. Such fees are charged- by the way - by many colleges and universities nation wide. Game Tracker will be free.
The formal announcement of all this will be made on the MU web site when it's ready to go and I will also run it on our blog....

Soccer will almost certainly never play on Kessler. Most true soccer people don't like to play on an artificial surface. They much prefer grass. Plus Kessler is not big enough. Big enough to meet minimum standards? Yes. But not big enough for the preferred size of a soccer field.
Re: soccer (M & W) - Well, however they eventually do it - in my opinion - they need to get both teams on the web - and sooner than later.
Since WMCX can't broadcast every sporting event due to other programming (students music and talk shows), why doesn't Monmouth hire their own broadcasters so they can do the video feed with announcers whether WMCX is there or not?

Tony, this is Jim Grossmann and I'm actually in Jersey, but I can't make all the games so I am really looking forward to this!!! Fabulous job by Monmouth on getting this to happen!!!

I'm not sure what is a 'fabulous job' about doing something that had been pushed for and resisted by higher ups for about five years... I guess since it didn't take 10 or 11 years like the MAC, it's a fabulous job.
But I am glad they finally got some people in there that get stuff done.

Re: Game Tracker, Video,etc. While other schools, including some in the NEC, already have G Tracker and Video Streaming for the last few years, MU isn't all that far behind in catching up. Now, another year or two and it would have been the case. I'm not sure what "higher ups" were resisting what.
Yes, it would be nice if MU was a leader, not a follower.
I am going to keep bugging them about soccer.
Re: Video announcers at games MCX does not broadcast.
Seems to me they could get students who would be eager to try it, much like the MCX staff.
But blending audio in with the video other than via MCX might be a different technical procedure, not sure.
But again, something for MU to look into...
Obviously, the more sports they video, the more fans (and families and friends of athletes can watch), the better it is for recruiting.
I'm not sure if Game Tracker and Streaming video is good for home games at a school that size for sports like soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse... Already struggling to draw fans, do you really want to give fans another option to follow the team on those rainy 45 degree days?
Just throwing that out there.
Re: Rainy days, etc. Don't think it's an attendance factor. Anyway..it's more for folks out of the area who otherwise can't follow or make the games...
