MU hoops summer player updates

As many of you know Whitney Coleman and Jhamar Youngblood are playing with Sterns in the JSBL.

Mike Shipman - going to play in a summer league in the Bronx.

Adam Dobriansky (for a few weeks anyway) and Sean Barlow in the outdoor league in Belmar.

Rickie Crews - playing in S. Jersey, Dutch Gaitely in a league around Philadelphia.

Newcomers Nick DelTufo and James Hett may make a JSBL appearance here or there.

wouldn't it have been better if they had tried to get most of their "core"- youngblood, coleman, shipman, crews if possible, together on a summer league team?

I believe you may only have two (maybe three now) current members of a college team on the same summer team. That said I'm a little surprised Shipman did not play here as he has in the past.

At the same time you can't fault a kid for wanting to play near home. Though he went to high school school in Delaware he is from the Bronx.

I guess Crews..who is from South Jersey, also wanted to play closer to home.

That is correct. Just two current college team mates per team---Commissioner Stern

Kia (Lakia Barber) is the only serious injury (ACL)I am aware of. She is "on schedule" per the Baxters but could be red-shirted. Brianne played though her ankle problem at the end of last year and did not require surgery far as I know - and Maria (nose) should be Ok.

A VERY important addition to the team should be - JUCO guard Marbely Montas (Union CC) - named by the The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company announced to the 2007 Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. This year’s team marks the 25th year of the JC/CC Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team, which began in 1983. Selection committees in each of the nine WBCA geographical regions select ten of the top women’s basketball players in the nation (at all levels) to be honored.

She could help push MU over the top if she is as good as advertised...

If I were a MU women's hoops fan I would feel very optimistic about this team having a big season ....

any new news on the MAC tony? I know they said mid summer for construction, but you'd think we would have heard something by now about the approval?

We all know the Jet `can score and I'm not downplaying that.

But when Dave attends a game he'll be checking out Jhamar's "D"..what there is of it - from him - and anyone in the JSBL................

Yeh well Tony, what Dave needs to do is work with the players handicaps. We all know that the Jet can score and that is what we look for him to do. He obviously takes over in scoring when the team needs him too. If the team won't do it, Jet will. What you should have said was - why the heck have we been pretending that Blake was so good. Wow if that is what you call good then MU is in for a heck of a future, because I recall someone referring to him with some of the best that MU has ever had. What a disgrace.

I'm not sure who you're blasting here..Me, Jet, Dave, Blake, Bill Ardis?? Who?

Anyway..what I said was...Dave would probably be checking out his defense..even though very little is played in the JSBL...and may I add Whitney's too - and any one of his players he observes in summer ball...

I know when I see one of Jet's games this summer I'll try and ascertain if his defense is improving - though - in the context of the JSBL - that may be very hard to do anyway.

By the way...Jhamar's defense was certainly not the main problem last year - though as a team - the defense fell apart big time..but we know that...

Wow Tony, you have done it again. You have managed to blow someone else's gasket. Way to go grahamman, although i do agree. Jet is good, and Blake - NOT SO MUCH........

I'm still not sure who's gasket and why..but what the heck - always glad to be of service...

Blake had a great career and a hellacious junior year - at times reminding me of Alex Blackwell the way he would take over a game...
