RJ update and new MU hoops

As last blog on Q pac was getting a full load..let's use this one for a while for any MU men/women's hoops chatter...

thank you

RJ Rutlege update

Finally got a hold of his coach, Bill Datty, at Northfield Mount Herman, Mass.

He said Rutledge averaged 15 ppg., 3-4 rpg. for a 23-6 team.

Coach estimated he shot around 40 percent from 3 and 75 percent from the foul line.

Described him as "streaky, " a "gifted shooter" and a "hard worker." Said he was in the gym yesterday taking around 400 shots.

Coach said RJs ' decision came down to MU, LIU, and CCSU. That around 10-15 other schools were "sniffing around.''.

Ironically his high school and prep school teamate is Tyrone Nash who has signed with Notre Dame, and apparently MU and UND will meet in the Paradise Jam to kick off 2007-2008.

Nothing new to report on Jermaine Smith.

RJR seems to be a good get for the Hawks. No new info on Smith, Tony? Any other players in the mix with MU? MU needs to add another frontcourt player for sure.

On RJ: Tony, do you think he has the talent to compete for a starting role for the Hawks, maybe at the third guard spot? Who is your starting four and five at this exact minute?

Tony, stop throwing my name around in reference to being in the lineup. I am a vocal leader from the pines, and Calzonetti's punishing workouts are enough for me!

I can't - not throw your name around if I don't know who you are?

Actually..even if you said who you were on here..I couldn't use it because it could not be verified.

of course..my e-mail is tonygsports@aol.com...

To beevis - I'm sorry but I accidently deleted the reply to your question as I attempted to correct a minor spelling error..hope you were taking notes when it was on there!!!

In review summary..yes, I think RJ will compete for at least substantial playing time.

I said I thought the five for now is Adam - at least by default and the four - ?? who knows??!! they really need to get this Jermaine Smith.

I hope they have a 'plan B' in case Smith goes elsewhere!

To last anon: I did not run your qestion..though it was a valid one - because I do not feel it is correct to spread rumors on here. I also do not know the answer to your question.....though such a development is, by itself, not uncommon in college basketball, and then you also have to place it in context.

I realize that's a vague answer..you can always e-mail me at tonygsports@aol.com..again though..I do not know of any specifics...

Tony, your speaking in tongues now. What did those people ask you? Can we have a hint, a clue, a person, place, or thing? Throw us a bone.

Ok...some people are claiming kids are transferring.

I have not heard anything about anyone leaving.

Others are complaining about various other non basketball playing issues.

They may e-mail me if they like, and I would try to respond in more detail as to why I cannot run their comments - but not one person even e-mails me (tonygsports@aol.com)

So - bottom line - all these anon comments on what are basically non-basketball playing issues will not be run.

rumor is that Mark Schmidt is gonna get the St. Bonnies job... I've never loved the guy's in-game coaching but he has turned around that program... RMU could be one less competitive team to deal with in the conference.

Re: Schmitt. Really..what have they ever done under him? Joined MU this season in the under achievment club..not quite as under but some serious gurgling.

Re: Calloway to Butler.....uh....no.

overall record has improved every year over last 4 under Schmidt albeit very slightly... have underachieved in conference but there's no disputing the talent he's brought to the program. St. Bonnies is pretty desperate for a coach at this point, but they've gone the NEC route before and had success when they hired Jim Baron away from SFPA in the mid-90's.

Maybe this will tend to shed some light on some of the mystery that has been on here..

Along with the rumors of men's hoops transfers - of which I have no knowledge of any - some bloggers have raised non-basketball playing issues..and said THEY HAVE CONTACTED MU president Paul Gaffney over these ALLEGED issues.

I just spoke with Gaffney - here is his statement..

""I am unaware of any issues going on with men's basketball. I have been out and around on the campus quite a bit this week and the last couple of weeks and I have no indication of any issues.''

One of the problems on a blog is that anons can attempt to post anything. As moderator I have to judge what should and should not be run and I can blow up any incoming comment after I read them and thus they will not be published.

I have been accused by some of not doing my job.

Well...after receiving a wave of such blogs the last few days I contacted Gaffney - because, well, checking out rumors and such, after all, is part of my job.

He's the boss, the head man. I can go no higher at MU.

So to bluehawk, deep down, anons, and others..you are apparently making a good case for why there should not even be blogs.

I will not be addressing these ""issues" any longer.

I really enjoy doing this blog to discuss MU athletics and it appears, at this time, some are attempting to use it for their own agendas.

The blog will continue but it will also continue to be strictly monitored.

I may always be reached by anyone on the planet at - tonygsports@aol.com

After being spurned by several candidates, St. Bonaventure is close to getting its man.

Robert Morris coach Mark Schmidt is expected to be on campus Wednesday and could accept the job to replace Anthony Solomon, according to sources close to the situation.
Schmidt, 44, has a 82-80 record in six years at the helm at Robert Morris. Solomon was at St. Bonaventure for four seasons and finished with a 24-88 record.

Schmidt, who played at Boston College, was an assistant coach at Xavier prior to taking over at Robert Morris.

Robert Morris lost to Mount St. Mary's in the Northeast conference tournament quarterfinals.

Tony does Calloway have a chance to be the next coach at Princeton?

Re Calz: If he is in the mix..and I don't know that it's RMU open officially....though it appears to be ehading that way..I would think he would be a viable candidate...

Re Calloway..I'll accept that as a serious question..whether you meant it to be or not.

I would have to think Tigers are looking for a more high profile head coach or a big name assistant.

Qupac gets a few transfers and then the $300,000 looks like a good deal. They would walk away with the NEC if two UCONN players transfer.

Tony any truth to the rumor that one of the PITT Ast will get the RMU job? Looks like the NEC is a green field for big east ast coaches. This could be a new trend...

Two reasons....

1. I am also doing some high school baseball blogging..perhaps you can suggest a new coach or two in the Shore Conference.
.

2. I am rejecting blogs from people - perhaps like yourself - well - of course like yourself - who are trying very hard to worm and sneak around the statement I made earlier..which read....

""I really enjoy doing this blog to discuss MU athletics and it appears, at this time, some are attempting to use it for their own agendas.

The blog will continue but it will also continue to be strictly monitored.""

But..hey..at least your building up the blog counts on the most successful blog on the APP...!!
