First off I would like to thank the seniors for such great memories in their past seasons. Not everyone gets to go out on a high note as they now know. I was able to make almost all of the home games and quite a few of the away games also. They kept most of them exciting but obviously lacked the final ability this year to hold onto a lead late in the games. They are leaving their legacy of the NCAA Tournament appearances in our minds and we can only hope that that next year’s team will try their hardest to return Monmouth Basketball to their respected status as it has been in the past. The defense is the most critical part of the Monmouth strategy.

As for coaching, I have confidence that Dave, Ron, Mark, and now Chris will do their best to teach their system to the players and try to instill some ‘killer instincts’ into them so that they can finish-out games, meaning when you finally get them down … kick ‘em.

I hate the so-called fans that can only back the team when it’s winning. If you’re really a fan you hate to lose, that’s understandable, but there are many things that are out of the coaches’ hands once the players are on the court, one of them being that on some nights another player or team may be playing their best game of the season. Remember, Monmouth has been on the top for quite a while and the other teams always want to knock the ‘Big Dog’ down. Also unlike pro teams that get to keep their best players as long as they want and can build a team around them, these guys are only here for 4 years and must mature themselves and then leave.

All in all I’m looking forward to next year’s team and I’ll be there supporting them win or lose, cheering for each player when they perform well.

Once again to the seniors ‘Thanks guys and I wish you well in your future and don’t forget to continue to support Monmouth’.

There's been more post-mortems on the Men's team than on Anna Nicole. Time to bury both and move on to the Tournament basketball that IS going on for MU -- Women's team at Quinnipiac 1 PM Saturday. Competent, but young team that could get to the Tournament final or be one and done -- they're wildly inconsistent but can play with anyone in the NEC this year. Think with maturity and only one graduating senior, (and Pape graduating from Sacred heart)MU women will be an NEC force next year.

Tony -- you covering the game?

Any chance Calloway gets fired before his three year contact is up? What if next season he goes 10-20 and then 8-22 ? How much time do you give him to turn it around? Does Calloway shake up his staff ?

Tony if Calloway was gone who would you like to see as the next MU coach?

I really haven't given it much thought since I don't expect Dave to be gone any time soon..who would you nominate?

Let's say..per your comment - next year it's 10-20 and then 8-22 ..that leaves Dave one year left on his contract and that year will also be the first full year (MU fans hope) of the MAC (2009-2010).

I would think that's a key..I don't think Gaffney wants to see his new 4,100 seat arena sparsely populated.

I think that fourth year for Dave could be important if the program is struggling.

I see no staff changes unless someone wants to leave.

Chris has just started, Krayl is a lifer, and I don't see Calz going anywhere...though, you never know.

He might be the only one but I don't see him uprooting his family unless it was a head job at a significantly bigger school...

How can you not make a change in your staff? After a 9th place, when you were pick 1st, Who picked the talent? 4 front court players that NO other D-1 program had any interest in ? Calloway is safe as you said but why not bring in a new ast coach.Maybe the ship has to sink all together .

What assistant coach would you get rid of? Krayl or Calzonetti?

To new coach.

..so who are you going to replace....Chris? ..this was his fault?

Krayl..get serious.

Calz?...he's been with Dave since the late 90's and has been his top recruiter ..which - at least until now - has worked out rather well.

I think you have to give this group a chance to rebuild..and show next year the team is back on the right track...

I'm not cutting loose either, myself.

Hey, MU had a rough year..has to rebuild..these guys don't deserve a chance.??

It is a little surprising to me..that after six good years in a row...there would be an outcry for Dave's head.

Now, for all I know this could be a minority..usually people who post are those who gripe more than praise..that just seems to be the way it goes.

To new coach needed:

Which 4 front court players are you referring to?

I would like to know the answermto that to New Coach. As far as i know the all the kids where asked "what make you choose MU" in there interviews. Uh, which would indicate that they had to make a choice. I personally don't think that the front court was all that bad individually, together is what the problem was this year, and wouldn't that be a coaching issue....
