Tyler Azzarelli update

Talked to Tyler earlier this evening for a short story I will be doing on him later this week to run in conjunction with Chris Kenny feature...

Tyler is in his first year of a probably two-year deal at Villanova as a graduate assistant...after that hopes to go into coaching full time. Like Chris, hopes to be a head coach some day

Tyler noted that many well known head coaches began as grad assistants..he mentioned Tom Izzo (Michigan State) and Gary Williams (Maryland)
Dave Calloway served briefly as a grad assistant his first year after playing before becoming full time as an assistant so the job is certainly a launching pad...

Actually former MU coach Wayne Szoke served as a sort of volunteer assistant coach (similar but different) for the 1975-76 Rutgers team that went 31-2...

For those who may not be aware ..Tyler was a four-year PG at MU and along with Kenny formed the back court that last year led Monmouth to its second NCAA trip since 2004 ......

It'd be great to have Chris Kenny as our future head coach with Tyler as his top assistant.

Well...see me in 25 years or so..or send me a note at Shady Pines...

Dave is going to coach for a while..so Chris would have to eventually settle in as top assistant. - I can see him replacing Krayl at some point

In my opinion Chris is so local oriented this could happen....

Tyler - I think - if all works out - goes from Nova in two years to a an assistant job at big time D 1.. - look where he's starting ! - and with the contacts he's going to make...

He lands a major to Big time D 1 job in 10 years...merely my speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me .....
