MU football loses this recruit to Villanova
I post this because I think it's revealing to see how MU is warring with some of the "big boys" of 1-AA football and also how memberhsip in the NEC may potentially hold it back when in the running for this caliber of player. Same holds true for hoops...
below is from njvarsity.com.
DB Shaquan Virgil of Florence (NJ) was a major contributor during the teams run to yet another state championship in 2006. Virgil, 5-foot-11 and 190-pounds, decided to become a Villanova Wildcat on Monday, and will take his official visit to the school this weekend.
"I have been up there a couple of times to attend basketball games and one of my good friends goes to LaSalle, which is about one minute from Nova, so I am kind of used to the area," said Virgil.
In December, Virgil took visits to Monmouth and William & Mary, plus he holds a handful of other offers, so what made him decide on Monday to commit to Villanova?
"Well I had received offers from Monmouth, William and Mary, New Hampshire, UMass, and Nova, but I already narrowed my choices down to Monmouth, Nova, and William and Mary," said Virgil. "I enjoyed my visit to Monmouth, but the level of competition they play is lower than the ones of William & Mary and Nova, so that kind of knocked them off of my list.
Virgil is also comfortable with a few of the other players that have already committed to Villanova in this class and mentioned that he was recruited to play the "monster back" position at Villanova, which is similar to strong safety.
"They said I can compete for a starting job as a freshman, because they are losing their safety from last year," said Virgil.

Wow, to lose a player to Nova is saying something about our program.
The type of player Coach C is now recruiting is a type of player that Monmouth has never seen.
We are on to bigger and better things.
point is...they lost him though...when they begin to over-recruit higher tiered schools, then we can get all excited...
Coach C runs the BEST program at MU,don't worry about one kid going to Nova. The fact that MU is at bat and these type of players have them on their short list is OUTSTANDING.
you're clueless
