Lots of baseball in Freehold
The third time was a charm Saturday for Freehold but not for Freehold Township Saturday.
Freehold defeated Monmouth Regional for the third time this season, 4-2, to advance the Colonials to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III semifinals Tuesday at home against Colts Neck.
Ryan Cuneo doubled, singled, and drove in a run for Freeehold and Rich Pultar drove in a run with an infield hit in a three-run fourth inning.
John Marx added an RBI double for Freehold as Jason Nardi bested Bobby Wyrwa.
.
Monmouth scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error.
Greg Spatz of Ocean and John Ernst of Ocean each went 3-for-3 and Spatz hit a three-run home run home run that cleared the left field fence and landed in a garbage can (we kid you not) as the Spartans won for the the first time in three attempts this season over Township, 9-3, to advance to Wednesday's Shore Conference Tournament final at First Enegry Park vs. the winner of tonight's TR South/Point Boro game.
Sophomore Chris Ballester hit his first varsity home run for Township, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Jamie Rosenkranz pitched five innings for Ocean to improve to 4-3 and added two of ocean's 15 hits.
