MU football news/from njvarsity.com

From me MU battling in some "big time" company for this kid..seems like he's interested ...

Here is the story -

LB Mike Carbone of West Deptford (NJ) first came to our attention during the 2006 National Underclassmen Combine, and has since enjoyed a fantastic junior season and is now dealing with his recruitment.

Monmouth offered Carbone last week

Carbone, 6-foot-0 and 220-pounds, finished his junior season with 93 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery. His performance on the field earned him 1st Team All-State Group II, 1st Team All-South Jersey, 1st Team All-South Jersey Group II, and 1st Team All-Conference honors.

"Personally I had an amazing year," said Carbone. "I achieved above and beyond people's expectations. As a team we had a great year too. We made it to the South Jersey Group II Championship Game against Manasquan, and ended the season at 11-1."

Losing in the State Championship game is always a tough way to end a season, but for Carbone and his teammates, this loss gave them additional motivation towards 2007.

"I believe that we will be a great tem with lots of talent," said Carbone. "We have a great chance to return to the title game and win it. Personally, I will work on my leadership skills. Now that I am going to be a senior, it will be my turn to lead my team to success."

With the pressure of receiving his first offer now behind him, Carbone can now concentrate on the May Evaluation Period and further enhancing his stock.

"I am receiving interest from a variety of great programs," said Carbone. "The top schools are Monmouth, Delaware, New Hampshire, Stony Brook, Rutgers, Lehigh, Army, Purdue, Maryland, Temple, Buffalo, Pitt, BC, and UNC. I was offered a full scholarship from Monmouth University on Tuesday, April 11th. I went up to Monmouth and I liked them a great deal. Delaware is also showing a great deal of interest. In May, I will find out which schools are interested the most."

Carbone has already attended a spring practice at Monmouth, and now has a few other upcoming scheduled events.

"I am attending the Nike Camp at Rutgers in May," said Carbone. "I plan to attend Monmouth's Camp and Delaware's Camp. Depending on who shows the most interest will determine which camps I attend."

NJVarsity.com will stay in touch with Carbone throughout the recruiting year!

Tony-

How is MU going to compete with Rutgers or Delaware for a kid like this if everyone is offering a full ride. Tall order in terms of exposure, fan attendance and facilities. Good luck to coach Cal and his crew, recruiting never seems to be easy.

You're right..not easy...but they're doing it the right way..

Show interest right away.. offer him the ride..and see what else shakes down...

Other schools may drop out in time, or not show the personal touch this player is looking for..

It's certainly worth the attempt...
