On the high school baseball trail

Just hit a wrong button so the prior blog published prematurely. Good thing I'm not an air traffic controller. Anyway, was going over coverage plans for the week.

On Tuesday may try to catch the afternoon game in the MCT at Freehold Township between the Pats and Wall. Guess I'll miss Brett Brach (drats!) who is probably throwing in the states Monday.

Now we're up to Wednesday and I will be going back to TR South to see St. Rose probably throw Anthony Ranaudo (7-0) at the Indians in the SCT. Friday there's more NJSIAA games on tap and the SCT resumes with semifinals Saturday. Of course mixed in is the Monmouth County Tournament. And, all of the above is subject to change!

Let's see now.. who is still in the running to try to become the next Shore Conference team to win the Quadruple Crown that Wall won in 2004 and became the only Conference team to do so?
That's 1) winning a division, 2) a county championship, 3) the Shore Conference championship, and finally 4) an overall (not just a sectional) NJSIAA title. That's what Brett Burke and the Knights did in that 2004 season.

From Class A North, CBA (non-public) and Freehold Twp. (public) are still alive in the MCT and the SCT (and states as we speak). Other A-Public champ Ocean is out of the MCT.

From A South...TR East won the OCT and is zeroing in on the division crown and plays its first state game Monday.

From B North Wall and Feehold were co-champs..Freehold is out of all tournaments but the states and Wall is gone from the SCT...A Central champ RBC is out of the SCT, B Central champ (non-public) St. Rose didn't enter the MCT so they can't do it and other B Central teams are out. B South champ Point Boro bowed out of the OCT.

This leaves...CBA, Freehold Township, and TR East. Am I missing anyone?

Some thoughts on Press Player of the Year? Candidates right now would be Casey Gaynor, Brett Brach, Ranaudo, Ryan Cuneo (Freehold)_, Pat Biserta, Tom Heuer (P Boro), perhaps Greg Geran (RBC) and Keith Weinkofsky (Ocean). Usually depends on what happens in the SCT and the States. Any thoughts? Anyone else at this point
come to mind??

My mind still boggling over Monmouth U being out of the NEC Tournament. They were having a great season and then.... poof...all gone.
There were some pitching injuries that were a problem and then the bats went just about dead.

Later folks...

Yes, nice player. Looks like he has good range at shortstop. Solid hitter. Overall, 14-run barrage vs. Raritan not withstanding, TR East bats have to perk up some if Raiders are to advance deep in state and Shore Conference Tournaments.
